L168ParticipantHi,
The CPDs are best bred in a species only tank, im trying 2 setups at the moment to see which one give the best results.
Setup 1:- 12L 30x20x20 with marbles on the botton and common hortwart (Ceratophyllum demersum) as spwning medium. 5CPDs 2 males 3 females.
Setup 2:- 112L 80x35x40 split V aquarium flame moss (Taxiphyllum sp. flame) on the bottom and common hornwart (Ceratophyllum demersum) as a surface plant
Both are very promising, ill let you all know in 3-4 weeks wha the results are (and hopefully ill have run out of aquariums again)

L168ParticipantSorry to say this but as a fishkeeper i eat fish regulary on fridays, i was brought up in Guernsey, one of the channel Islands. I remember going to church every sunday (i hated having brill cream put in my hair) and fish was eaten every friday. After i left Guernsey i hated eating fish till i met my wife 18 years ago and now having children of my own we eat fish again on fridays (i dont send them to church thou).

L168ParticipantI dont know about this in the UK but in germany theres a website mainly for students who travel home at weekends and they advertise car space for a small some, the german fishkeepers use it to transport fish as its illegal in germany to use the postage system and only one company actully transports live fish and that GO Express. Ive used the student once and the fish where picked up by the student and dropped off at my house 6 hours later.

L168ParticipantIve reorganized my fish room, removed a 180 cm x 70 cm x 50 and put in shelving for 19 112L 80cm x 35cm x 40cm and found a new rack for 20 30 x 20 x 20 aquariums.
Picking up 40 CPDs this weekend all fully grown so once they have been reaclimatised to my water then ill been seeing which setup produces young.Mfg Peter
L168ParticipantThats a great idea, most forums have a chat room built in or a link to Mirc.

L168ParticipantHi,

August 24, 2007 at 10:15 pm in reply to: Why does biological filter media need to be replaced? #11909L168ParticipantHi,
The bacteria colonies live in the pores of the medium, they habe a short life span of around 2 weeks before they reproduce, once they die they are still in the pores, the new colony lives on top of them, the firms recommend 3-4 months of actual living space on the medium before it becomes inhabitable for the bactieria. Other than rincing it out which you can do, they would recommend you change it, for them its profits.

L168ParticipantHi,
If its only 4 days id feed them BBS till you can see thier orange stomach and then go without having someone look after them. I do this and have little trouble even for 7 – 10 days. This way will be the best way. I onloy left someone once looking after my tank and came back to a very smelly and dirty tank with only bristelnoses left alive the rest of the tabkmates were dead.
