No the adults 2 males 6 females are in this tank I have to remove them, the fry that is, not ideal I imagine it shocks them a bit, I maintain consistent water parameters in both. I am afraid moving the adults will stop the mating, but once I get a good stock I will set them up in a rectangular 50 I have and use a divider

I am now having a second hatch this week, I have 100+, there has been fry everyday this week.
I start them I this(8 gallon) I find it easier to feed the in this tank, the food tends to stay suspended and settle on the side. I used to hate that, now it serves a good purpose, there is a life lesson somewhere there.

I added more moss they feed on the small “bugs” that live on it, also I used frozen baby brine shrimp, also a staple fry food any staple you can grind fine enough will do.
I move them to this tank after a week or two a 10 gallon

I also added more moss to this

I agree I was so happy when he started breeding I am hoping his offspring aren’t so skittish, but I have to say he is a good dad he protects his territory so well he actually keeps the other fish from the eggs, eats his share no doubt and have seen him eating fry but keeps the others from getting too many I got 30 this week.

They are eaten very quickly if you want any amount of fry you almost have to keep vigil or have a second tank(or use a divider) and switch moss or mops every 7-10 days. Another way is to siphon the gravel leave the siphoned water and see if you siphoned eggs. I haven’t tried this method only because my fish are spawning every week and try not to disturb them too much

I found this is a picture when he was younger, but this angle it is hard to see the red bottom jaw, there is a spot dead centre of the upper as well

I have a male with red on the mouth he is also a little larger than the others 3 cm, I know this is a poor photo but you can see the red mouth, he is the dominant male and very difficult to photograph

I personally haven’t seen the red mouth in any others (hopefully his offspring will) is this common?

Mine like the bottom feeder pellets I use for my shrimp, even if there is other food present they prefer the pellets and they power really easily and feed some to my fry as well
