I know the pictures are blurry but I wanted to show one of the black one from my hatch next to it is a “normal” colour. The black ones seem weaker and get picked on when they are young. The heads seem a little more bulbous at this point anyway. There weren’t many to begin with maybe 10 -15 out 140 but now only 5 or 6 out of 80(the high mortality is due to the fact I planted my raising tank with plants that had damsel fly larva it has proven to to be a battle, I have started to disinfect my plants.

Good question I have noticed one of mine swimming like this, I isolated mine treated with melafix just in case it was an infection. It seems to be healthy except for the odd swimming. How large is the fish?

It kind of looks like they clamp their fins? I would guess the water they were shipped in had some bad bacteria built up, do you have access to mela fix it is a good natural based, I use it and have had great success with it, there is a stronger version called pima fix. If not I would use em tablets

They are doing really well, quite a few are getting their colour now, they range between 4 and 9 weeks in tank. They are still sensitive to movement but they don’t hide as much as the parents do, which is nice, the wild caught are very shy.

that would work just to clarify I use the net to catch them, then siphon them and some water from the net

I use a shrimp net (really fine net) then use a dropper to siphon them out of the net, a test kit dropper will do if you cut the narrow tip off. I sometimes siphon with tubing sometimes.

Mine do not ignore them for long, but I have heard of some people raising them together with the adults. Mine slowed the breeding down 20 last week only 3 fry this week so far I was getting approximately 40 a week last month.I have about all I can handle anyway I have about 120+. there are 60 4-6 week in a fifty us gallon, it is already a pretty good school. They seem less skittish than the adults.

It is a good question, I keep shrimp in with mine I think they might eat eggs if they stumble across them, but probably less than the parents I am keeping an eye on mine, I wonder about the small fry as well. So far I haven’t seen them eat any.
