Hi,
I know some others on the forum had success with a divider, check aquagirl for example. I tried it but did not have success, I used a thick (5cm) piece of filter foam (not the fine one, but with bigger ”holes”) but noticed the fry swim through the foam back into the part where the adults reside.
Also, I never noticed my fry to stay at the top of the tank, but this could be to do with the temp or O2 in the tank.
I now move the parents to a separate tank and this works better for me.
LarsLarsvbParticipantthis method works for Emeralds as well. I got 15 (and counting) in the first attempt.
LarsvbParticipantHi,
1 there is a small stone in the middle of the board between the moss that keeps the board down on the ground. The fish cannot lift it
2. I used small black rope that does not break when it gets wet.
3. I bought mine in the toyshop down the road. I am sure you can find some on ebay.LarsvbParticipant@Larsvb wrote:

@MChambers
btw. as you can see on the video I have an exactly thesame setup and try to breed Emeralds in there. I just checked and see many eggs under the ministeck board so apparantly they fall trough.LarsvbParticipantI uploaded a video to youtube so you can see how my breeding tank looks like (and how filthy it is )
LarsvbParticipantI am not sure as I remove the parents after 5-6 days and then wait. I leave the ministeck plate where it is so cannot really say if the eggs are in the moss or on the bottom. I will check in a future breeding attempt.
LarsvbParticipantok, thanks for your help. Next time I will go for a sollution where I use some sort of horizontal plate with holes that let the eggs fall through and to which I can tighten the moss to. Maybe I have better results. But first I have to raise the fry (6) I have currently.
thanks
LarsvbParticipantHi Dennis,
2 males, 4 females.
The moss is sometimes at the bottom but due to the sun, it starts floating due to the air tht comes from the moss. Perhaps I need to tighten it somehow.
I have the females in the tank for a week and fed heavily with artemia, Then I add the males and remove them after 5 days.
Do you have any gravel in the tank?
LarsvbParticipantsomebody is messing with your head, I am sure.
LarsvbParticipantthat is a great tip.
How I do it is having a small breeding tank in the window sill. This is on the northeast side of our house. The back of the tank is black painted. The location of the tank is great because:
a. it gets the first sunlight in the day, this enhances breeding for many fish
b. because of the early sunlight algea will grow but very minor. SO the tank is covered a small bit with algea and the water is lightly green. Also, many small critters are seen in the tank and act as food.LarsvbParticipantI think clove oil works best. A couple of drops in a liter of water, put the fish in there and breathing stops in 10 seconds, leave it there for a couple of minutes and it is dead for sure. Do not use it for feeding purposes afterwards as the clove oil might kill all your other fish in the tank,
