Hi guys,
have not much result with mybreeding attempts. Just 1-5 fry after every try. Just wondering if this has anything to do with the bottom I use of the lightning. My 15ltrs breeding tank is in the windowsill so the only light it gets is normal daylight and a little sunshine in the morning. Furthermore I am not use any bottom (allthough I tried it with small black stones but got thesame results)
Is there perhaps too much light in the tank? Should I hide the back glass of the tank from the daylight?
any thoughts?
further details:
tank is filled with java moss and floating plants
temp is 24-25 degrees celcius
bare bottom tank
air filtration

Is the moss tight to the bottom of the tank? I try to put in a big enough piece of moss so that the fish can not get to the bottom of it or under it to eat any eggs that fall through.
How long are you leaving the fish in the set-up before removing the adults?

2 males, 4 females.
The moss is sometimes at the bottom but due to the sun, it starts floating due to the air tht comes from the moss. Perhaps I need to tighten it somehow.
I have the females in the tank for a week and fed heavily with artemia, Then I add the males and remove them after 5 days.
Do you have any gravel in the tank?

If I had to guess, I’d say that when the moss floats up, they can eat the eggs that fall through or are at the bottom of the moss. The eggs are not adhesive so they will fall right through the moss unless they happen to get in a tangle.
Other than that, it sounds as though you are doing everything correctly…. or at least the same way I often set-up breeders. I must say however, I don’t get consistent results with CPD’s no matter how I set them up. Sometimes you will get 50+ fry and the next time using the exact same methods you may only get 8 or 10. I think this is one reason the price of these little jewels remains fairly high.

Next time I will go for a sollution where I use some sort of horizontal plate with holes that let the eggs fall through and to which I can tighten the moss to. Maybe I have better results. But first I have to raise the fry (6) I have currently.
thanks
