no, i dont do anything with the gravel. just syphon a bucket of water off the top every week and put some fresh water in to keep the nitrates as low as poss  . i rinse out the filter in the used tank water as it clogs up and doesnt work properly every week. if the filter is still working fine i dont touch it.
thats good (can see the reason above your post)
when you syphon the water do you just use abit of pipe/hosepipe?

chr15_8Participantwow

Personally I don’t. I gots sand. Don’t think that can be vacumed at all…
good
if you think about it reports say that the eggs arnt sticky so they would (i presume) 75% of them will fall through and land on the gravel/sand therefor vacuming it will remove the eggs etc
just my theory anyway

like it alot done a very good job
will post pictures soon just carnt find my camera at the moment  not that its much to see just java moss and polysperma growing where it wantd!
chris
chr15_8Participanti dont actually have a routine
if i forget to feed them one day ill just feed them as normal the next day
if you think in the wild they might be lucky to get some food where as others there might be lots kicking about
as i said i dont really do any maintaince on the tank except top up
just want to make sure. you dont vacum the gravel at all do you?

Aww, now you’re making me jealous…
I’m still waiting for babies from my galaxies. Waiting, waiting, waiting…
that is the hardest bit!
same with me thinknig there never going to come then i got loads!and ive just seen another fry in the tank as i write so just got to find him and put it into the fry tank
so thats 12
edit
make that 13 nowchris
chr15_8Participantwell ive just found a few moew which means i now have 11 fry in the fry tank but there might be more in the breeding tank still well happy at the moment
chris
chr15_8Participantmy fry tank is 2.5 gallons and has 5 fry in at the moment however i hopse more will be in there soon!
i also have another 5 gallon on standby if i need it for any reason
my 2.5 gallon tank was a low tec planted tank first beofore i got galaxy and still is
chr15_8Participanti think you need to just wait tbh
i dont do nothing special for them. i feed the a pack of enriched brine shrimp from maidenhead aquatics once a day 7 days a week i have an eheim ecco 2332 at half flow on a 15 uk gallon tank (sorry not to sure on the flow rate) with is returned through a spray bar which is positioned under water (also i dont add any oxygen from pumps)
i canrnt remember doing a water change except refilling the tank every week/other week.
water is at 22c
i have my lights on from 7 in the morning (weekends whenever i get up) and off whenever i go bed normally 10 but sometimes it could be 1( normally weekends again)
as i said im sure you will get some soon i felt exactly like you wheni had to wait about 3 months for mine!
chr15_8Participantive just found another 3 fry in the tank however i cant get them out at the moment as ive just decorated my room so had to drain the tank so theres 3 inchs of water (about 5 gallons)
so they have to stay with the parents for a while so well see if they are there or not very soon
chris
chr15_8Participantwell done
its a great feeling when you see them
chris
chr15_8Participantanyone have any pictures yet or at least seen them?
i just hooked out a few fry so i was really looking hard and saws omething on the glass.
basicly theres about 4 lines. 1 has about 6 eggs, 2 has about 11 eggs, 3 has about 7 eggs and 4 on has 3 eggs
they are really small about 1mm round and im 99% sure they are not snails as they lay in a patch in a gel where as these are singles layerd
i tried taking a photo but there to small and my photography skills arnt good enough
hope someone can help/suggest
chris
chr15_8Participantive only seen 2 in the fry tank since monday so im assuming the other 2 are dead.
i also found another 1 (wasnt free swimming yet so i assume its a newish fry?) today
chris
chr15_8Participanti think hydrilla looks nice (i want some but carnt find any localy)
when you do your bigger/new tank i would consider adding a good substrate like tropica’s aqua soil or something like tetra complete (if you have these over there)
ive got tropica aqua soil and 1.5 wpg and my polysperma is starting to take over (has taken a month but with no ferts/co2
