celestialdudeParticipant
I second that!
celestialdudeParticipantYeah, they’re amazing, I think they’re the closest thing to a “miniature” trout.
Look at the Brook Trout for example: http://www.homestead.com/twra4streams/BrooktroutID.jpg
That’s what it reminded me of the first time I saw it.
celestialdudeParticipantThanks Chris, I’ll look into that…
celestialdudeParticipantYeah, I’ve explored all these live food options, but I just don’t know where to get them locally to cultivate them, other than brine shrimp, which I hatched yesterday, but apparently are still too big for them to eat.
Don’t know anyone experienced enough with these things to take care of my fish. The other (community) tank is “self-sustaining”, complete with timed lighting, auto-feeder and I’m monitoring it via webcam. It’s too big to move elsewhere for babysitting so I’m hoping it’ll hold out for a month. If there’s any emergency as observed thru webcam, I’ll let the landlord know and he can help. Hoping that the fry will get big enough for me to move them to that tank, but maybe not…
Saw 4 at one point, but now I can only spot 2-3.
So maybe I’ll leave them in the small tank, it’s also got timed lighting… there’s lots of algae and snails in there, maybe there’ll be enough infusoria to keep them alive for a month… or, is there anyone here willing to babysit them, who’s in the Toronto area?
celestialdudeParticipantYeah this one is awesome. To be honest, it’s the first power filter I’ve ever owned. However, I can tell that this is a good quality one, from the way everything fits together and the way it’s designed. The outflowing water is very smooth, no turbulence, and you can adjust the flow rate. 3 layers of media – sponge, activated charcoal, and biological (Bio-Max). All thanks to German engineering! Very happy with it.
celestialdudeParticipantIt is an external filter, and looks like this:
From what I’m hearing, there doesn’t seem to be major problems with Java Moss. Thanks guys! I think I’ll go ahead and get it.
celestialdudeParticipantJust got a new tank and moved my 4 Celestial Pearl Danios there. It’s a Waterhome 20 gallon, got a great deal on it and it’s a complete kit. I highly recommend this tank kit.
It’s got lake beach sand as substrate – fine enough to be “sticky” and gentle for plant roots but coarse enough to sink and stay put.
Inhabitants:
5 neon blue rainbows
4 celestial pearl danios
3 german blue rams
1 male guppy
1 cory cat
1 golden apple snailPlants:
Marsh pennywort
Moss ball (Cladophora aegagropila)
Hygrophila polysperma
Coontail
Microsorum pteropus
Rotala rotundifoliaLighting: 15W Aqua-Glo by Hagen / Aquaristic
celestialdudeParticipantOh my goodness… these are some really awesome photos. And I mean AWESOME!!! Thanks Glenn, for sharing them!!!
celestialdudeParticipantNice! So you use EasyCarbo and Profito for your plants. Is that all you need to make them grow so well? No CO2 injection?
celestialdudeParticipantCould be shocked from the water change. Not more than 40% at a time is recommended.
Something like Nutrafin Cycle solution would help.
That’s my guess.
celestialdudeParticipantAlright, first person in history to photograph and publish the eggs wins a prize.
The prize: being the first person in history to photograph and publish the eggs of a newly discovered fish species!!
celestialdudeParticipantHmm, offhand, my guess is that these are not true genetic variations, but rather coloration influenced by diet and nutrition. Can’t say for sure though… it’s an interesting discussion, only time will tell if these are truly genetic variations. I hope this forum helps facilitate breeding for these different varieties, that would be so cool!
celestialdudeParticipantHey Aaron,
I know we just talked over private messaging… I just wanted to confirm and clarify to the forum members that I have the permission to use your most excellent photo on this forum provided we give you credit (I will edit the top left photo real soon, to add your name). Let us know your thoughts… I think you have become a bit of a celebrity as far as this fish is concerned, your shots are awesome!
Best regards
celestialdudeParticipantBeautiful!!!
Hey Glenn maybe you can post the specs for your tank hardware, substrate and plants, if you have time.
Cheers
celestialdudeParticipantAtlantis – maybe you can post some close-up photos? Use macro mode. We might be able to identify it better for you.
