ParticipantSo if you know a good website and stuff, why the secrecy?

ParticipantFound one dead about a foot from the tank in a bowl I was drying chamomile flowers, which is probably why I couldn’t see her the first time.
Weird thing is, the water level was low when I was gone too.
Don’t have any hope the other’s alive…
I’ll look around more closely for a body. They are small…
Definately going to make or buy a lid, but I don’t understand why two would do this at the same time. I’ve never had trouble before.
This sux.

ParticipantYeah I think that’s normal. Mine just huddled together and hid. They weren’t very happy at all.
Give them a while to settle in (still feed a little though) and then they’ll be wanting to eat more.
For my fish, I’ve definately noticed mine picking food off things, more usually rocks and java moss rather than the sand. I guess it’s easier of them to find it there.
A big flat rock to put food on might be helpful if you want to monitor food intake.– Atlantis Child

ParticipantWhat’s your tank temperature, by the way? I didn’t see you mention it, or I’ve glanced over it?
Sorry to hear another died…Any vets in your area that do home calls on fish by any chance? Maybe you could look around. That’s the best I can think of really.

ParticipantYeah. I know thanx.
I meant a lake or mountain beach. I think that’s stable. I can imagine ocean stuff is bad news, and I’ve trouble enough with pH.
Besides, I live as far from an ocean as one can get really.

ParticipantOh, and next time I visit a beach I’m taking some sand/gravel home with me. The petstore sells it at ridiculas prices

ParticipantI got a bunch of slate through my mother’s friend. I broke it up a bit and did my 20 gallon with it, and it looks awesome. Plus I can get more if I want. He bought way too much.

ParticipantMine reacted the same way when I moved the java moss around so instead of being one big clump it was spread out. Also, I added my 3 white clouds, which I’ve noticed in the past put them more at ease, but was afraid they would munch up the eggs and fry.
But then I read in one of Dr. Axelrod’s books (great guy, writ many books on different fish, their habitats, how to breed and so on. Also discovered some new species.) that white clouds leave both eggs and fry alone.
I trust his judgement on that.
The effect is wonderful. Not only do the fish not hide anymore, but have colored way up more and their gold spots ‘shine’ more.
Just hope if I get fry it will be from the galaxies, not the white clouds, who are also in a better breeding place… Not that I’d mind a few more white clouds, but that ain’t the point of the tank. So be good, fishies!

ParticipantHow do you stop the fry that swim into the fry section being able to go back out?
