Early days yet. They will in time I’m sure
October 1, 2009 at 7:10 pm in reply to: Breeding Celestial Danios cohabitating with Cherry Shrimp #14126Tom2006Participantnice tip. Many thanks I will be trying it!
Tom2006ParticipantNice tank….that should fill out very well indeed. Also very nice number of CPDs! Any sign of breeding yet?
Tom2006ParticipantHi
Thanks for the tip. I do have seom amazon frogbit but will try some pennywort as well. It can’t harm.
Tom2006ParticipantA nice number your doing very well! I know what you mean about them being eaten. The biggest haul I had was 5…rest eaten!
Yes my youngsters rarely duck below the top third. I feed newly hatched bbs and red crumb food. The tank is also nice and mature with lots of moss and plants for natural food
Tom2006Participantnice fish Ged! How many youngsters have you got now?
I’m almost ready to devote a another tank to breeding mine so hopefully will get to be as successful as you. I’m still seeing a couple of my youngsters exhibiting the strange laboured swimming!?!
Tom2006ParticipantCPDs are great for the smaller tank. I have five adults breeding regularly in a 40litre cube style tank. I now have around 7 youngsters of various sizes growing on and I’m hoping to move them into a larger tank to breed them further. They are certainly worth a tank all to themselves
Tom2006ParticipantHi
Nice sounding tank in the making. Personally I would not keep the two species together.CPDs are naturally timid fish but are gorgeous! I am biased but I would keep a large shoal of CPDs over golden barbs any day of the year. The answer to your problem is simple. Get your wife a tank of her own.
Let us know how you get on
Tom2006Participantinteresting pic ged thanks for sharing. I’ve never seen the darker form. shame about the head shape and their reduced strength or you could be onto something there. People always like different things.
September 17, 2009 at 8:01 am in reply to: Breeding Celestial Danios cohabitating with Cherry Shrimp #14111Tom2006ParticipantThanks…thats interesting to hear. I seem to lose some of mine that do this. Possibly as it causes them to struggle to feed maybe?….strange because I have never seen another species of fish fry do this.
Tom2006Participanthmmmm….must be something to do with this species as some of my youngsters do exactly this and almost all end up dying. I wonder if they are missing out on something in their diet or its something wrong with a water parameter?
September 16, 2009 at 10:37 am in reply to: Breeding Celestial Danios cohabitating with Cherry Shrimp #14107Tom2006ParticipantDoes anyone have an issue with their young having problems swimming and then eventually dying?
I have had a few fry from various spawns make it past the adults but quite a number of them, at about 7mm onwards start to struggle to swim and sort of flick upwards as if they can’t hold themselves in the water. I’ve got two at nearly 2cm and one has started to do this stange swimming action ever so slightly. I’m feeding them red crumb food and baby brine shrimp. The adults are in the same tank and never display this behaviour so it must be something I’m doing wrong with the youngsters
September 13, 2009 at 5:17 pm in reply to: Breeding Celestial Danios cohabitating with Cherry Shrimp #14104Tom2006ParticipantThats brilliant!! A run down is just what you have done. Given us a description/view of your tanks and how you breed them! You are very successful!!
Would you be able to start your own thread in this breeding section. I would love to know how you use a bucket to breed them please? I have some young fish but not many. I would love to get more to increase my shoal size.
September 10, 2009 at 7:57 pm in reply to: Breeding Celestial Danios cohabitating with Cherry Shrimp #14102Tom2006ParticipantHi Monica….WELCOME!!
Your English is great!!!….do you have a run down on your set up (s)? Sounds like you are breeding quite a few? Any tips you can offer us?
September 8, 2009 at 5:03 pm in reply to: Breeding Celestial Danios cohabitating with Cherry Shrimp #14100Tom2006ParticipantI have been having mixed results. So far got approx 7-8 youngsters growing up with my adults and the cherry shrimp. I think its down to the adults rather than the shrimp although I’m sure the shrimp will get a few eggs.
