When I said final.. i actually thought it was.. but nature has a wonderful way of surprising you.
4 free swimming fry noticed today. So 4 out of 6 in a first attempt. I’m happy. With my new equipment coming, I will be trying again soon
maximumbobParticipantwell the final fry count is three. They are free swimming from today and seem to be doing ok.
I’ve ordered some smaller tanks I can fit side by side so I can grow them on a bit whilst I try breeding again.. one of my females looks very fat atm.
maximumbobParticipantI had a big problem with dropsy when I first got CPDS.
One major influence i think was water temperature change. My thermometer went screwy then I did a water change without realising. The water was much warmer than the the tank and probably shocked the CPDs.
Mine too looked healthy until they started pineconing.!!
I would quickly institute a low stress environment and protect your fish from any light/sound etc. Check around for equipment vibration too in case something has moved.
I would also consider a treatment to improve the mucous coat.. whatever you fancy really. I found that anti-bacterial treatments for dropsy didnt work. I would also consider giving them not too much to eat as well, mine deteriorated when I tried to feed them up after stress.
I also found it beneficial to reduce the turbulence in the water by altering the spray bar angle so that it went against the glass, and I put a sponge over the filter intake.
It also goes, almost, without saying… test every water parameter you can and see whats about. Its also worth testing the tap water in case of any changes there.
I tried a lot of different tactics when I encountered dropsy, take what you think will work for you..
I wish you luck.
Si
maximumbobParticipanti now have a grand total of 2 fry lol
Not earth staggering amounts… but I am still pleased that I had a result after my first attempt.
Now I just have to figure out how to house these growing fry as I try to breed again.
maximumbobParticipantwoohoo.. the above egg has hatched into a very small little fry.
I’ve added some liquifry No. 1, and installed my air powered biofoam filter this morning.
I wonder how many will have hatched by then???
maximumbobParticipantAmazing news!
I put 1 female and 2 male into my tank last night. It was my first attempt at breeding them in this new setup. When I came in from work this evening I was amazed to find an egg on the floor of the tank. I quickly scooped out the danios and shook the spawning mops.
On my first go it would seem that I managed at least 6 eggs.
Not an enormous number I know, but I think they snacked on them whilst I was at work.
My only picture is quite bad, but its a mobile phone pic… so for that its good!
maximumbobParticipantfor BBA, regular water changes removing as much as possible. Regular Flourish Exel, and turn up the CO2.
My fishy pics can be found on:

And as your a plec guy… theres a little something there for you too
maximumbobParticipantI think they are great, if a little boisterous.
This is one of mine taken a while back
maximumbobParticipantI thought it would be nice if I posted the usual residence of my danios. I’m currently fighting a nasty bought of BBA – so its not looking exactly like I would want. I also need some top cover… but i’m working on that atm.
You might even see some of my vaillant choc gouramis in the shot too
maximumbobParticipanti have a similar substrate in my planted tank.
It is an inert crushed/ rolled glass type thing. Still looks ace though. It’ll look better when i put in some eco-complete though
maximumbobParticipantany chance of a quick snap of your mop layout.
Just want to see what you mean by a lot!
I hope I have to make more mops… my sons loved it
maximumbobParticipantI have made up a few dark green spawning mops this morning.
I think I’ll have one floating long one at the top, and one smaller one left on the bottom. I might even work a little bit on tidying up those plastic canvas edges as well later on.
maximumbobParticipantmaximumbobParticipantI live in widnes (10 minutes from Ste when I dont get lost), and bought my CPDs from trimar in SW England.
I keep walking past the CPDs in Maidenhead aquatics at bold healt… £4.50 each or 5 for £20. Thats a bit pricey if you ask me!
I’m hoping to breed a fair few.. maybe enough to put a large shoal in my 180 litre tank.
maximumbobParticipantI have got 6… initially 10, but they travelled so poorly I was left with 6. All in great condition with the males looking really good over the past month or so!
