katkinParticipant
ste – lovely rams! Very tempted and swaying in their direction.
L777 – I have to admit, I’ve never really thought much of the hatchets, but could be a good idea for the top of the tank, nice one
– Will definately up the number of cardinals, the 4 I have tend to dissapear until feeding time.
– I think I’ll avoid the angels but will keep an eye out for the dwarf rainbows and possibly the honey dwarf gouramisI’ll try and get some pics up tonight.
Thanks for the suggestions so far
KkatkinParticipantI’m avoiding guppies as I’ve had them before. I went to the lfs this morning and they had paradise fish, very pretty but some of the staff said they can be aggressive/territorial.
They suggested possibly a pair of rams but I really don’t know a great deal about them. They were very colourful and looked healthy, so they might be a possibilty.Slightly off topic, I picked up a dozen pygmy cories for the cpd tank, I couldn’t resist, they are gorgeous little critters!
kkatkinParticipantMy betta’s the only one with a name – Benson!
KkatkinParticipantWow, lovely marine tanks. My hubby would love to have one, but I’ve managed to convince him to wait until we own our own house and don’t move a round every few years! I don’t mind moving the tropicals, but I don’t fancy trying to keep all those marine critters alive during a long move!
katkinParticipantHi Dr. Ashtray,
Just realised that you are from the Ottawa area. I grew up around there, absolutely lovely area, especially in the summer. Unfortunately I wasn’t into fish at the time, so don’t know what the fish shops are like.
I lived across the river in Aylmer. My sister still lives in Ottawa and I’d love to come over and visit one day, Maybe when I win the lottery! Living in the UK now and the last time I was in Ottawa was about 6 years ago!
Good luck with your cpd’s
KkatkinParticipantCongratulations, thats fantastic. I hope you really enjoy it., and learn loads.
KkatkinParticipantA very Happy Birthday!
KkatkinParticipantyes they spawned unheated, but this house is alot warmer than my last place. The tank temp stays around 24-26C with no heater in a 2ftX1ftX1ft tank. In fact I’ve only just started closing the windows where the tanks are, at night as the temp drops. I’ll check the ph etc on Sunday as I haven’t checked it since we moved in. Just been too busy. I will also try and get some pics sorted out.
KkatkinParticipantFry growing nicely, I reckon there’s around 30-40 plus two tiny albino cory fry who managed to survive. I’ve set up a smaller spawning tank and transfered 5 adults to that to see if they’re happy to spawn in there. That way I can use the 2ft tank that the fry are in at the moment for growing out.
Fingers crossed I won’t have any mishaps this time! Mind you the tank that the fry are in isn’t heated so at least I don’t need to worry about them getting cooked!
KkatkinParticipantI’ve got loads of snails in my spawning tank and there must be over 20 little tiny fry in there at the moment, so at least some of the eggs must have avoided the snails.OR the snails just don’t eat them! To be honest I don’t mind having the snails in there as they will happily eat any food left over if I’ve inadvertantly overfed the fry.
KkatkinParticipantWow, I really wish I could try that here, but the weathers just been so unpredictable I wouldn’t want to risk it. I could probably of gotton away with it here (new house) as it hasn’t rained since we moved in. In fact it’s hotter now than it’s been all summer!
KkatkinParticipantI’d ring them if I were you. I don’t think I could have waited a week!
Good luck
KkatkinParticipantFry doing well so far(still can’t see how many there are). been adding a few microworms as well as liquifry 1 as they look like they are just about big enough to eat them. Got some bbs bubbling away ready for feeding tomorrow. Think I might need to set up a smaller spawing tank and use the one the fry are now in as a grow out tank. Just gotta figure out where to hide it so hubby doesn’t moan!
KkatkinParticipant34, feel more like 134!
katkinParticipantI think it was only about £7-8. It was definately less than a tenner.
