I have some kubotai and they might work okay. They are about the same size and stay much more at the top of the water than CPDs do. They are also way more active and aggressive so the CPDs might hide for a while.
I currently keep mine in a small community tank with a male betta and they kind of run him around at feeding time! They are hardy – mine are probably around three years old now. The only ones I have lost were males who fought too much over the girls.

Carmon in NMParticipantAs far as I can tell, no fish stores here in New Mexico carry them at all, nor any of the other small or unusual danios. The best you can find are zebras and occasionally pearls.
All of my CPDs came from AquaBid with the best ones coming from you!
Carmon in NMParticipantI have a healthy stand of wendtii at each end of my CPD aquarium and the CPDs seem to enjoy hiding out in and swimming through the stems. I’ve never seen them take any other shelter and they really like the open swimming area in between.
I recently started a daphnia culture and they definitely go nuts hunting for and eating the live daphnia. I suck the daphnia up in a plastic turkey baster and then squirt them out at the level the CPDs spend the most time in.
Carmon in NMParticipantMy CPDs and goldrings both go crazy for daphnia. It’s fun to watch them hunting through the plants for those little buggers! I think things that move around are especially entertaining for them.
Carmon in NMParticipantThose really are lovely fish! I’ve always wondered about threadfin rainbows and those are fantastic.
I keep a beautiful group of gold ring danios in with my CPDs and they have done extremely well together. They both seem to have about the same level of energy (very calm) and neither group is at all aggressive. Plus, I love they way they look together!
