BallAquaticsParticipant
I recently purchased the site from Celestialdude and would like any comments on ways to spark interest in the site.
I’ve put a home page in place of just landing in the forum so that I can add some content – I’m thinking about articles on different breeding set-ups, general care, raising fry, etc.
I’m really into Danios and I also have the site http://www.danionins.com that will cover Danios, Devarios, and other closely related species… no forum on this site though.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

BallAquaticsParticipantSounds like a plan!

Yes very nice fish. Never seen them for sale anywhere. You don’t breed them as well do you?
Well that was the plan when I first got them… just too many cool Danios in the que ahead of them
Here’s a list of the fish I’m currently working with…
At one time the Microrasbora erythromicron were also on the list, but I dropped them because they are not Danios.

Yes it is, Microrasbora erythromicron. Very cool fish. They buzz around the tank like little humming birds.

BallAquaticsParticipantI’m with Tom on this one… they need more cover. Perhaps a clump of moss in a back corner.
All of mine spend 99% of their time in bottom third of the tank. I don’t think I ever lost one to jumping out of a tank.
Here’s hoping you get this sorted out.
Dennis
BallAquaticsParticipantI see… I gave them mosquito larva and golden pearls to eat twice a day. They were in the set-up for 7 days before I removed them, so I had to feed them.

very very nice! Did you do the surface feeding and if so what did you use? When did you remove the adults?
Hey Tom, I just started surface feeding this past week using Golden Pearls Rotifer Size 5-50 Microns from Kens Fish…
http://www.kensfish.com/kensspecialtyfood.html
They get micro or walter worms 3 times a day with the golden pearls twice in between.
The adults were in the set-up for just a week – 4 females / 2 males.
Dennis
BallAquaticsParticipantIf you can get a sponge pre-filter for the intake you’ll be all set!

BallAquaticsParticipantHi John, welcome to the forum! These are the perfect fish for your 5 gallon planted tank.
Good luck with your breeding project.
Dennis
BallAquaticsParticipantTom, I wouldn’t get too hung-up on inbreeding. Pick your best 5 or 6 fish and go from there.

Nothing special… bare bottom tank with a good sized portion of java moss, diy sponge filter.
I gave them mosquito larva and golden pearls to eat twice a day.
This week I kept the sexes separated and fed them heavy with live food. Set them up in another 5 gallon tank yesterday, Friday. I’m hoping that keeping them separate has allowed the girls to build up egg production for more fry this time around… I’ll keep you posted!

Yesterday morning I counted 40+ fry!
Thanks again Monica… many more viable fry than with my previous method.

I think they all go through a stage of this at some point in the development of their swim bladder. I’ve seen dozens of mine do this very thing, but they get over it in a day or so. I’ve never seen one of the adults do it, that’s why I assume it’s something linked to the growth process of the fry. Not a scientific answer, but just a casual observation…

I’ve been using small plastic containers to hold the moss and then switching the containers out every 3 to 5 days. I’ve had pretty good success, but nothing compared to the success you’ve been having.
Thanks for the set-up info, I’ll have to give it a try!
Dennis
BallAquaticsParticipantI’ve never had good luck netting newborns, so I started using a small plastic cup. They never leave the water, and I get 100% survival rate.
