Great! I’ll picl some wafers up on monday
If you really want lots of baby platies, then buy a few more and introduce them to the male individually a week apart
True, but it’ll be tough getting a ride to the petstore that sells then when my parents already have the idea I have too many fish.
The last girl bought was really nice in coloration, but most aren’t as pretty. I want the offspring to be as good looking as possible, so I’m going to be picky about it.

atlantis_childParticipantMy little catfish “Talos” has grown bigger and turned out to be female, so it’s Talosa now.
My mom doesn’t understand that females have a rounded belly, so she thinks that catfish like that are just fat. Though that might well be true with ‘Chewy’… That little vacum cleaner.

atlantis_childParticipantDo you think the platies would appreciate a little bit of algae pellet? I know they pick at it on stuff.

atlantis_childParticipantHey…just cuz I transformed my tanks to live does not mean I’ve joined the cult.
Or does it…? When is one initiated? When they have just as many species of plants as fish? When they start using CO2 thingies and fertilizers for the plants? Begin using aquatic plant ‘soil’?
I’d better tread carefully.
I was looking at the ‘plant lights’ though. Didn’t have a price tag though, so I didn’t decide to get or not. I really need to get a light thing over my 22 gallon though. For the plants as much as lighting it up for good looks.
– Atlantis
atlantis_childParticipantAmber has half the 22 gallon to herself. Well, and the pygmy catfish and my small hanging fry net box. The water is good, warm enough, and well-filtered and aerated.
It’s been 36 days now.
I put in lots of Hornwort. Java moss is remarkably hard to get around here. Think I’ll do a staff request at my petstore, but it’ll still be about a month probably.

November 17, 2007 at 8:48 pm in reply to: Looking for domestic-bred Galaxys in Alberta, Canada #12982atlantis_childParticipantThe galaxies are doing well. They seem to like the tank’s setup and are very spunky little things, chasing each other around, doing the noral galxy thing. Not timid at all.
I’ve been feeeding them frozen brineshrimp, frozen glassworms, hikari micro-wafers, and when I have the time, and am not using the little airator I have they get some live baby brine shrimp.
You were away? Sorry, didn’t notice…
– Atlantis
atlantis_childParticipantCool I’d love to have a herd!

atlantis_childParticipantI have a ‘zebra danio’ that has spots insted of stripes. Gorgeous girl. I found another like her. A young one I believe was male, but unfortunately he died during tank shifting and renovating. I wonder if the trait is heritable or not. Want to test it out some day. They are way cooler than normal ones.
Leopard Zebra Danios… Awesome!

atlantis_childParticipantAmber is still taking her sweet time about giving birth, but seems to be still getting rounder. Hopefully that’ll mean I’ll get more than 3 this time…
Silly gender-changing Jesse!
Summer, my best female is beginning to get larger too. Not large enough to think about putting her on the other side of the fence, but large enough to notice.
Unfortunately I noticed today she has aquired a little fungus on her side. Will have to get meds tomorrow.
On an after note… I should really check out and keep an eye on the others as well.
Fungus has actually become a problem at work. Usually it’s just Ich, but now fish are getting fungus, lice and tail rot too. The black moors are having the worst. Eye-fungus. Actually, the goldfish get sick the most over all. About a third are sick right now, and that’s after a few cleared from the lice.
Yesterday the last two of my favorite catfish, the neon oranges died. They had the tail rot, and despite my loving care didn’t make it. Don’t see why that would kill them, but just as I was near the end of my shift they took a nasty turn and I knew they were in their last hour. Didn’t want to pull them (read, take them out and kill in mercy) and told my fish roomate not to either.
I had to pull a pygmy catfish earlier. They’re also a favorite of mine, but this little guy was suffering. Actually, all of those kittens weren’t too happy, and nobody was buying any. We got in 6 a few weeks ago, so I took the remaining home for the fry in breeder net and expectant mom side of the tank. Of course, they found a way through at the side of the barrier and now go wherever they please.
I’m thinking of selealing that thing on the sides for good. I’m not likely to be changing it, and it looks greaat the way it is.
I’ll post pic’s of my renovations (including the plastic to live transformation, to the pleasure of the live plant cult I’m sure )
He he… Love a good ramble.

atlantis_childParticipantYeah my betta’s really peaceful too. He only chases new arrivals a little till he decides they aren’t a threat to his domain (roughly 30 seconds). Other than that he minds his own business.
(white cloud minnows are close relatives of Celestials in my opinion)
If so they’d be a great mix. Well the more domesticated ones anyway.
But definately in a bigger tank!
atlantis_childParticipantYeah well, just fry is bad enogh. I should have expected it, but when looking for baby fish pictures on google, “fish fry” doesn’t cut it.
Anyway, my vegetarian mind took a few moments to process the results.

atlantis_childParticipantIssues with the site? Let me think…
It’s totally awesome! That’s an issue!
– Atlantis
atlantis_childParticipantYeah, it will a while though. They’re half the size of a adult, maybe a bit bigger. Very active and seem to enjoy their new ‘jungle’
I love these fish already. They’re darlings.
– Atlantis
atlantis_childParticipantI got the little beauties! 5 male, 5 female. Still young but already have good coloration.
The first girl that wanted to help I asked if she could sex them and she said, “Uh…I’ve been working here two days.”
Well everyone has to start somewhere, but I asked for the busy, but experienced dude, with whom I had a chat with about the galaxies. Asked if I knew about a “Michael,” who he said was the first to breed them in N. America. Well no, but I mentioned the PDF and this here forum.
It’s a good store, not personable at all, but it’s Heaven for fish lovers. Imagine all the cichlids you can, all the rainbowfish, danios, tetra, barbs etc. They are all so freaking beautiful!!! All the different sorts of bettas, and females as gorgeous as an average pretty male too.
They have saltwater fish too, but I’m not really a fan.Bought some frozen glassworms. There was more choice there, than at my store, but still limited. No live either as well. Oh well, more stinking up the basement with the smell of brine…
