Gary,
thanks for the refresh on the post.Four questions for you:
1) When you spawn danios in the plastic livebearer breeding traps, do you use the v-shaped tray in the bottom to funnel the eggs down, or just let them drop through the slots in the bottom?2) When you use the tub of marbles, does it work to leave the marbles in, or do the fry have a hard time getting back up and out? How many layers of marbles do you usually use?
3) My LFS told me that their Glofish(TM) supplier mentioned a possible return to sterilizing them before selling (allegedly the two wholesalers did this at first, then stopped), based on the obvious breeding happening outside the tanks of the patent holders. I got some of each recently, and am curious if you have any experience with the fertility of recent Glofish(TM). (I hope this doesn’t set off moral preaching posts on the ethics of the existence of GM danios  .) Will I be wasting my time to try to breed them? Finally, what does interbreeding the three colors give?
4) I’ve also recently gotten a Danio pantheri (TW-03 or heiroglyph) — the salesman swore it was just a pearl danio, so I didn’t complain about the price! — and two Danio choprae’s. Any experience with these yet?
Fellow danio enthusiast,

The answer is yes, they are always breeding anyways no matter where they are at, it is just like you said the breeding tank simply allows you to catch the eggs. I would suggest to anyone wanting to start breeding fish to go with the zebra danio first. They are a very hardy, very prolific species of fish which are easily bred. In fact if your community tank is well planted there is a good chance that one day you might wake up to find a few new editions to your tank. If you watch closely, especially in the morning you will see them chasing each other at the bottom of the tank. When the male finally does catch a female you will see them shimmer and shake side by side and them suddenly out of nowhere eggs will burst out all around the two fish. Then just as fast as they were created by the parents they are gobbled up by the parents or surrounding community fish. This is why it is important to use methods that keep the hungry parents out of reach of their newborn eggs. If anyone has anymore questions don’t hesitate to ask, I love every aspect of breeding and and taking care of these fish or any freshwater fish in general.
I’ll be getting a 6 gallon nano cube…are there anyways to get the eggs safe if my CPD spawn?

When the eggs fall down in between the moss strands (or acrylic yarn strands), many of them will be safe. If you are sure that eggs were laid, you can remove the adults and let the fry safely hatch. If you are not able to actually see the eggs, but you do see that your CPDs are doing the mating chase in the mornings (that’s when mine do it), simply remove the adults after a week or two. You will probably start getting fry in a day or two.
