ParticipantWOW…you have good eyes! Do you have any pictures of the spawning trap set up?
Tom2006
ParticipantSorry to hear about your troubles. They can suffer when moved around and need stable mature tanks. If you have a pair they should reward you with some young fish soon
Tom2006
ParticipantLoving the planted tank and cpds!
Tom2006
ParticipantJust monitor really. My gut feeling says the fish will die but I sincerely hope not. Good water changes and no sudden changes.

ParticipantThey don’t really grow much more than 2cm so once at this size they will spawn. You should see some fry unless the adults are ace at eating them all. CPDs LOVE to eat their own eggs and fry

ParticipantLOVING your tank….very nice indeed!
In case you want to breed the shrimp, my CPDs eat virtually all the shrimp young.
Tom2006
Participantgreat news! The adults always eat most of them unless very heavily planted. Best method is to move the adults and you should see plenty.
Tom2006
ParticipantI bred mine nicely in a small 7gallon tank. You could go smaller but not by much really unless you only keep a few.
Tom2006
Participantyes. The CPDs eat the baby shrimp but not the other way round
Tom2006
ParticipantWell I have had mine for around 18-24 months and they are still all going strong, so I have no idea
Tom2006
ParticipantGreat stuff! They really are a great fish and breed relatively easily.
Tom2006
ParticipantYes, they could be male and female. Mine chase all the time. They aren’t a shoaling fish as per the neon tetra etc. They like to hang out and hide and dart around from cover. I’ve never seen my spawning but fill my tanks with moss as they love this.
Tom2006
ParticipantThey would be much happier in a larger group (but see my other reply before adding anything else to your tank) but the behaviour is normal they always chase each other
Tom2006
ParticipantThe problem you will have initially is that CPDs and shrimp need a mature stable tank, and a new tank is anything but that. I would make sure its mature first before adding anything else. But yes the CPDs would be much happier in a larger group, you would be fine (in a mature tank) with 6-8 fish. Shrimp also like to be in groups. Cherry shrimp are one of the easiest.
I wouldn’t add any other larger fish just yet and certainly nothing over an inch, as it would be too large for such a small tank and would probably stree the CPDs

ParticipantNo, mine are in species only apart from the odd catfish and shrimp
