WOW.. So thats where your name comes from.. Awesome pictures and what a great puffer. You have to be a girl as only a female could dress a dog like that  Cool dude….
ste12000ParticipantF*@k me, they look weird. You want to watch incase a gremlin hatches out of that…
Keep us informed.ste12000ParticipantCheers, they are really tiny, a lot like the glowlight danio fry i have just grown on. They are bigger than pencilfish fry though which to date were the smallest ive had. Dont worry about the missus she gets plenty of attention
ste12000ParticipantIv counted 9 fry tonight, they are just starting to become freeswimming and will start to feed tomorrow, i am feeding the females up with plenty of frozen bloodworm and will try breeding again this weekend.
I am running out of time everynight after work, too many jobs and not enough hours in the day. Once the building work on the fishroom is 100% complete i can relax and start to enjoy my fish a bit more. I still have to do a bit of painting at the weekend and finish the ceiling in the larger side.I also won three more of the 18x18x12 tanks on ebay so i have to pick them up on sunday, and then get back in time for three visiters to my fishroom, the rams are selling like hotcakes and people are coming to collect their fish…ste12000ParticipantSomehow i missed the post where you said you had a job…WELL DONE HONEY.. Now you may have two store fighting over your services, Im glad your finally working with fish cos you can get us all a big discount and post to the Uk HA HA
My young cousin (15)came round to nosey at my fish yesterday and hes doing two weeks work experience at my favourite local aquatic shop..ill be asking for a staff discount there i think
Well done Atlantis i hope you end up with the job you want and dont worry about letting the other place down they will soon find someone else.ste12000ParticipantHi Viper, i think everyones answered your question so i would just like to say welcome to the forum and i hope you stick around…
ste12000ParticipantHave you figured out the divider yet?? why is it moving?
Finrot is usually caused by suspect water quality, i would recomend cleaning the filter sponges and changing 50% of your water, after that change 20% daily for a week and youll notice a difference. GOOD LUCK..ste12000ParticipantIll be working on it, i think it may be to do with the softness of my water?? As i said ill keep trying and change one thing at a time until i hit the jackpot and raise a few to adulthood. I also put them in the breeding tanks as single pairs! maybe the majority of the eggs were not fertilized by the single male? maybe more than one male in the breeding tank may produce more viable eggs. This maybe the case…..
Ill report back when i have some more info…Chris i know that its a struggle when you still live with your parents, luckily im now 30 and own my own home and have no-one to answer to. Explain to your dad that the more insulation you use the less electricity you waste trying to keep everything warm. In the middle of winter we will be pushed to keep things cosy outside unless the structure is very well insulated. Thats why i have now finished off the large side so i can keep things warm in the dead of winter and still keep the electricity bill reasonable. Upto now the difference is very apparent in that iv now kept the same temp but have dropped the thermostat on the radiator by 10f with no difference at all to the tank temp.
ste12000ParticipantHi Chris hows your fish house coming on??? Any further along with your plans?
I have come back to the fishhouse and found around 5 CPD fry, this is puzzling me as there are tons of eggs not hatched so something is amiss, i put 3 pairs into 3 separate tanks with a mesh along the bottom so they could not eat them while i was away. I have returned to find 5 fry hatched and sitting on the bottom using up the yolk sac the rest of the eggs are slightly fungused and will not hatch, there are over 50 eggs like this. The water is very soft and acidic more suited to south American species which i tend to specialize in. It was also very warm at 82-84f.
I am going to seperate the males/females for a week or two and try again with slightly cooler water and after that with neutral or slightly alkaline water and experiment to see what the problem is.
I have also come back to another spawn from my young rams..http://celestialpearldanio.com/viewtopic.php?t=541
This is a large spawn for young fish consisting of around 250 eggs. I also put the corydoras Sterbai into a breeding tank on friday before i went and i found a few eggs on the glass when i returned, not many though so i dont know what happened to the rest as cory’s dont usually eat their own eggs, unless they got hungry after not being fed for nearly 3 days?? i found 3 eggs stuck to the glass and the least iv ever known them to lay was around 60.ste12000ParticipantThat is a fantastic set of photos, the marines are gorgous. I think you will fit in perfect here..
ste12000ParticipantMine bred at 80f but i think this is well too high as i have loads of infertile eggs and can only see 6 fry in a bare tank?? I am going to try them in a cooler tank.
ste12000ParticipantHi everyone, im back from my weekend away and more tired than when i went, all those kids games that us adults shouldnt really do are very tiring!!!! A good time was had by all.
No-one looked after my fish because i couldnt really find anyone i could trust 100%. Just checked and iv only lost 1 juvinile ram cichlid, so cannot complain.
Right some answers to your questions.Albatross, i will try and update as often as possible, Have you seen the first thread i posted on the start of the fishroom?http://celestialpearldanio.com/viewtopic.php?t=393
aquaholic85, i dont know about what tanks are sold in the US but these were bought from a local shop and are built by a large company called clearseal, they are all individual tanks, not one large with tank dividers. There are 10-18x12x12, 5-16x8x8, 6- 18x18x12 and the 100litre tank with the cabinate and hood, this is now for sale and i will use the money for another rack.
celestialdude, my man, i will be uploading some pics on how to make a sponge filter step by step, although after all the parts have been bought it does not work out much cheaper than buying one in the shops. It does have a very large surface area for bacteria at around 4×6 inch square.
L168 luckily my water straight from the tap is naturaly very soft and slightly acidic, Here is my water report from the local water authority copied and pasted..

ste12000ParticipantBlagdon are one of the most reliable airpumps around, from what you say about yours i would say the diaphram was either worn or broken, there is a service kit avalible and ill be servicing mine every year, upto now it is proving very reliable and very very quiet and powerful.
The stands are made with 2 1/2 x 3 planed Redwood it is screwed into position and corner braces are used on every join. It is very level and took the best part of a day to get right. It is untreated and will last at least 10 years, i did contemplate treating but most timber treatments are not fish safe and i didnt want the risk.ste12000ParticipantThanks…No its not aerated, i dont find it makes much difference, upto now each tank is drained individually using a syphon pipe, it is then refilled by gravity from a pipe on the water butt, i prefere it this way, as you say there is less chance of cross contamination and if required tanks can have completely different water.
I have got maintainence down to around 1 hour if i dont mess about! but who has a fishroom and doesnt mess about, it usually takes more like 2-3 hours of messing to do all the little jobs, its been up and running now for only 7 weeks so there are loads of little jobs to do. I still have to insulate and board the roof of the side with the water butt, it can wait a week though as my missus is thinking of changing her name to guppy so she gets a bit of attention lol   -
