Atlantis child dont be afraid to let it all out, be proud lol…Setting up a third tank is where it all becomes a slippery slope to true fish geekyness..
My kids are sick of visiting the local fish shops, half the time they havent even had new stock in and im dragging the kids around for the 3rd time that week. I think there are a lot worse things to do with your time and money….

Right jo, your CPD’s will be fine if you put them in the community but you would not get any fry, to get them you would have to spawn them in a seperate tank. You will certainly see more of your cpd if they are in with other fish. Mine only came out of hiding when added to a tank containing very similar fish to yours.

I tried last weekend spawning them with the bare tank method, im still waiting!!!!!!
As soon as they get near the breeding tank they lose colour and hide. It is not my water as i also keep Discus and can breed them. I just think they enjoy company and are very nervous. I will try again when i have a breeding tank spare as they are all now filled with fry. Anyone want any pencilfish, rams or nannacara anomala just give me a shout lol.

Hi jojo, mine were also very shy in a small tank like yours even with tons of cover. I found that when they went into my large community tank with other fish they settled really well and never hide. My tip would be to maybe add a few Endlers guppys to your tank as they are not shy and are not egg or fry eaters, they should give the CPD’s confidence to come out of hiding. Goodluck.

Lol chris..i cant get more tanks until my fishroom is up and running. Iv got 8 now in the house and still not enough room for all the fish i want.
I removed the ram parents as i heard they can be egg eaters, then the eggs fungused and i thougt i had lost the lot, tonight i was just about to drain and clean the tank to set it up again and found upto 20 very newly hatched fry   :D
Well chuffed to salvage some fry from this spawning as the parents are wild fish and truly the most gorgeous rams iv seen in 20 years of keeping fish.
Iv still had no luck with the CPD,s… I will try again when iv got a spare tank. I plan to fit a grid and cram as much java moss in there as the tank will hold, with the grid fitted i can leave the parents for a couple of days and hopefully they should settle.

I agree with chris, bare tank is best for spawning. Use a air powered sponge filter so you do not suck up the eggs/fry, heater and plenty of java moss. Mine seem really nervous in the bare tank, and hav’nt spawned yet…. My Ram cichlids have spawned tonight though so im well chuffed…. :D :D  :D

Im not sure but as i said its less than £20.. Thats cheaper than a night out at town!!!! Whatever boards you decide to use make sure that it is moisture resistant cos you dont want to redo it all in a couple of years when it rots. The polystyrene was dirt cheap about £4.50 for a 8×4.
Do your parents know what your upto lol, yesterday i walked in with 4 more breeding tanks,Massive airpump and heaters…My missus is still ignoring me now ha ha

Hi Chris i too am going to be building a fish room (well its a brick shed but i still need to insulate). I work in a builders merchants and we sell 8′ x 4′ sheets of polystyrene either 1 inch thick or 2 inches, i am going to use this as it wont get damp and board it over with 12mm Water resistant MDF. I priced it up and for 1 sheet of each it came to £14 (thats with my discount but still less than £20). Let me know how you get on.. Cheers.
Ps iv got two pairs of CPD upstairs that went into the breeding tanks last night, Theres a lot of chasing this morning but no actual spawning yet…Fingers crossed.

I feed mine on flake, frozen bloodworms, brineshrimp and the fry foods from ZM products.. These guys have a excellent reputation amongst breeders and produce top quality fry foods.

Ha ha the poor siamese fighters been evicted, they can live in small jars within a larger tank!!!!!! Just change the water daily. The CPD’s are going to cause a few divorces lol… Iv not told my wife im getting 4 more breeding tanks (“oooops i thought i told you!!”).

Right Katkin ill share a handy tip..I was looking for a spawning grid everywhere so i turned to ebay. There is a bloke selling them for £12 each which i thought was a bit steep, I did my own research and found what this fella is selling.
It turns out he is selling a plastic mesh used for cross stitching, a plastic canvas is its proper name, they come in 20 inch by 13 inch and the holes are large enough for eggs to fall through but small enough to stop the fish getting through. Just cut slightly larger than the tank so the middle is raised up.
They only cost £2 each from my local market but i did get some funny looks from the ladies, me buying up all their plastic mesh lol :D
