PushkatuParticipant
What ever it is, it doesn’t seem to be bad. There’s enough oxygen in the water so that is not a problem.
PushkatuParticipantI’m glad you like it, it’s my favourite setup yet.
PushkatuParticipantHello once again folks. It’s been a while since I last posted anything here. My CPDs are doing great and I now have around 50( I started with 10, last year in January ).Since we last talked, I once again changed their setup so it now looks like this:

There are 4 people now in my town that have CPDs, besides the guy who sells them, most of them got them thanks to my fish journal that I keep on a local fish related forum.
God bless you all, c’ya next time, with hopefully ever better news.
PushkatuParticipantHello once again. My CPDs are doing well and their numbers have grown since my last post here. I moved my fry into a 15 liters tank and they seem to like it better there. I now have around 10 fry in the little tank and I find more each day in the big tank where the adults are. To bad I can’t catch all of them and many end up as food for the adults, but with each fry that I catch I feel more attached to these little fish. I spend many minutes observing them and it’s quite a show. I intend to raise their numbers to 50-60 and after that give what ever fry I can catch to friends so that others can enjoy them as well.
Cheers and beers,
MariusPushkatuParticipantMy CPDs spawn in my 200 liters community tank quite often. I see new fry every week, I moved one just the other day into the small tank with my other fry. From my first attempt to breed them I managed to raise 5 fry into adults. Now I have 5 more in the small tank, 6 if I count the one I caught yesterday, but some are bigger than others. I find it strange that 2 of them have a green metallic stripe, that spreads from the their heads to their tails. Those two are the big ones, over a cm. Other two look like normal CPD fry and the last one is to small to notice anything weird. I have many Pistia plants that cover close to 50% of my tanks surface. These plants have many long and “hairy” roots that provide good cover for my fry. I also have other fish, like: 3 killie, 3 guppy, 5 rasbora harlechin, 1 betta female and 3 ottos. With all these fish around I still find fry every week.
PushkatuParticipantOmg, that looks incredible. It’s a fish heaven. The only downside is that you can’t see the fish, but you’ve made a great habitat for them. Congrats!
PushkatuParticipantThank you and thank your friend for the good wishes. I am proud to say I have found 6 more and I managed to catch 5 of them and move’em with the other 5 in the breeding tank. Every single one of them is worth saving, they are lovely fish.
EDIT: I managed to catch the 6th fry after a couple of hours, to my delight of course.
PushkatuParticipantHip hip hooray, today is a beautiful day for me. I found 8 CPD fry in my 200 liters tank. I will not be needing the little breeding tanks from now on, because I now know how to get more fry and now that I know how, I’m ashamed that it took me so much time to find out. All I have to do is to look carefully each morning at the surface of the tank, right after I turn on the lights. This way I can see and catch the fry before the adults can eat them all. I am so happy. I will only use the small tanks to keep the fry from now on, no need to stress the adults by moving them from one tank to another.
PushkatuParticipantToday I moved them with the adults. They seem to like their new habitat and the adults don’t pick on them. A new pair will be moved in the breading tank(now empty) soon.
PushkatuParticipantHello again guys. My baby CPD are now one month and 3 weeks old. They are about 1.5 cm in size. I wonder if I could move them in my main tank with the adults now or maybe I should wait until they are 2 cm in size? What do you guys think? I want to add another breeding pair in there when I remove the young CPDs.
PushkatuParticipantNice, I also use Manado, but mine looks different.
PushkatuParticipantLooks really nice, what substrate you use?
PushkatuParticipantWelcome, I can’t wait to see your tank and your CPDs of course.
PushkatuParticipantHere’s my 200 liters tank, almost one month after reset, but I got most plants a couple of days ago, so the tank does not have that good old aging look, that makes fish tanks look even better. More changes will probably be made(by me of course) in the next months. I plan to change the substrate this Summer, with a black one. Nothing is done yet.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlaevHo5CGIAnd a couple pictures:
Feeding time
My 1st breeding tank 12 liters, it’s looks like a little jungle. (7 CPD fry in it)
My 2nd breeding tank 15 liters. I set it up yesterday, but the filter was already cycled. I’m going to leave it like that for another week just to be sure.
Cheers and beers,
MariusPushkatuParticipantMy fry are growing, not fast like guppy or any other kind of fry I had before, but they look a lot more like fish now. Most have at least 1 cm, 1 or 2 are smaller, but they’ll catch up. In my other breeding tank(15 liters), I removed the adults today after 5-6 days. To be honest I’m not very happy with that setup, but I’m hoping! I would not mind adding 10 or more CPDs to the colony.
