My CPDs tend to wait until the food has sunk almost to the bottom. Sometimes, if they’re being enthusiastic, a particularly enterprising one will dart to the surface and nab some food. I personally feed once a day.

I feed mine a varied diet; cyclopeeze, freeze dried brine shrimp, freeze dried tubifex worms, H. micro pellets, freeze dried daphnia, crushed freshwater flakes and crushed algae-based flakes. Whenever I come into the room or make a sudden movement, mine hide as well. I just have a seat in front of the tank and remain fairly still for 20-30 seconds and they come right back out. Then I add their food (sometimes even this movement makes a few dart back under cover) and sit still and watch. Mine never stay hidden long as long as I’m pretty still.

I feed mine Hikari micro pellets from time to time. They don’t seem to have a problem managing them, but they also won’t pick them up once they touch the bottom (my CPDs won’t touch anything once it settles onto the substrate).

Okay, sounds similar to what I do when I’m acclimating new fish; the plastic container floated in the tank is a great tip though. Thanks Dennis, much appreciated!
