mattw88Participant
hi its been a while lol.
i would get some videos but i havnt got a video camera, only a student lolmy babies are now to a decent size in the isolation net and i will be releasing them tomorrow.
i have however found another 6 fry in the last hour lol and will be placing them in my second net (to clean the current net) will rotate these nets to make sure theyr clean each time i get a new spawn.
will try and get a few pics of my first batch
mattw88Participanta week from my 1st fry, i have a total of 6 fry now, all free swimming and looking healthy.
mattw88Participanti would like to know what a dead fry would look like. i have a fry at the bottom of the isolation net that looks to have gone a yellowy colour, which to me doesnt look good at all!!
i was also wandering, i have used the Liquifry (3-4 drops a day) but i am concerned that they are not eating still as it sits on the water’s skin and doesnt sink… is this normal?? is it natural 4 me to worry soooo much! lol
i have started making smaller, more often watewr changes to the tank.
what is a good age for the fry that they have passed the crucial stages of their growth… you know what i mean lol
mattw88Participanti already have the ZM100, will introduce it in the next few days. thank you
mattw88Participantgot the liquifry, and found 6 fry in total now while doing my revamp. the fry i found this afternoon only look to be about a day old, mayb not even that so was very carfull when moving them nto the isolation net.
i think i may have found an egg which was caught in the current. i put it in witht he fry in the net just to be sure. does anyone know exactly how eggs look.
this one seems to be about a mm in diameter, but its completely clear. my guess/instinct tell me its an Infertile Egg….. please comment.mattw88Participantmy cpd’s are also very shy. any movement outside the tank they are straight back into their hide outs. i find the best time to watch these gorgous fish, is at night wen it is dark and the tank light is still on.
i just thought this was because to 2 main reasons:
1. not a lot of cover in the tank yet so they dont feel very safe when going out into open water2. mine are wild caught; wouldnt you be cautous if you were taken from your home and placed in an aquarium!
dont think much of it, just people look at me funny when i say i dont see them very often, they cant understand it but i still LOVE them!
mattw88Participantthanks 4 ur comments, i will defo get some liquifry asap,
cheers ppl
mattw88Participantfound another fry last night so that is only 2 so far! better than nothing.
however,
i was not ready for fry yet, its been so long without any, which i put down to not having the required cover, only a load of weed (Limnophila aquatica) and a large wood assembly to hide out (they love it!); therefore i dont have any fry foods! :oops:i am goin to be starting RO water this weekend just to improve the enviroenment further.
i will laso be planting a lot more of the Limnophila aquatica weed for more cover.
getting some fry food aswelhopefully more babies when these changes are put into place, just worried it may upset their current breeding situation.
just need to know weather the fry would be ok without any foods until Saturday night till i get some fry food?
because of this situation of no fry food, i am against taking them out of the breeding tank with the adults and putting them in the isolating/breeding net as i feel they have a better thance of eating some foods they find in the tank….. is this the right thig to do?
please comment
ps. sorry about the waffle, a lot to ask and say when so excited and confused at the same time! lol
mattw88Participanti have yet to breed these beautiful fish. i have wild caught CPD, will this make it any more difficult to breed them??
no sign of breeding behavior at all. i think the fact that the fish store i got them off gave me 11, but 7/8 are male!
mattw88Participanthi everyone, im new to this website (thank you to the person who set it up, excellent job )
iv had CPD’s since Febuary and havnt had a spawning yet. i will put this down to the fact that the tank isnt a mimic of their natural habitat; as a student i dont have the funds so its harder for me to buy expensive plants.this is my CPD tank at the moment:
80litre tank
23degrees centegrade
eheim eco 2236 (intake is covered with a sponge) plus internal filter that came with the juwel tank
part planted with java moss ball
little/no subsrate on the bottom
wood area for hiding out
11 CPD (4females/7males)
2 oto’si know that i need a lot more plants for cover; as these are wild caught CPD id imagine they are more sensitive about their environment than F1’s etc. i am going to try RO unit, as it was given to me at a shop (right place, right time i told my self lol) to see if the hardness of the water is having an effect on the lack of breeding activity!
some of the CPD dont look like they eat as all, others are fattened up nicely. obviously not optimum breeding when not fat and healthy so this could be a reason also.any comments are welcome
