Hi and thanks, i hope you are all doing well.

    Yes :D
I have managed to raise 20 – 25 fry into some lovely young CPD’s from my five origional CPD’s, so i am very happy as this was my first attempt at breeding them. They are now approx. 7 – 8 weeks old.

Today i saw something that i didn’t expect to see in the young CPD’s behaviour, males (or what i assume are males) locked together and swirling side by side just as the adults do. It was all going on, just in miniture. 8)

Hi, i personally think that with plenty of planting and places to retreat too there shouldn’t be to many issues with the fish you already have.
That said fish can be fickle creatures, so my advise would be that it would be prudent to keep a very close eye on how they interact for the first few weeks.
How many CPD’s are you planning on introducing ?

Hello there Buckshot, glad to hear that you have been successful with your breeding of CPD’s.
How many fry have you managed to raise from how many adults ?
And it would be good to hear a brief description of the parameters that you managed to breed them at.
One question many people ask is whether to remove the adults after spawning or not, i personally just leave them all to it and so far this has worked out well for mine as the adults show no interest in the fry what so ever. Keeping the adults bellies full so the need to relieve their hunger by eating my fry seems to do the job ! :D

Not to sure about that one.

I keep zebra/leopard/pearl danios with WCMM’s in a 100L community tank. In my experience it seems to be the females of the danios that present the biggest threat. Mine are rather territorial in particular the leopards, albeit they only chase the other fish rather than fin nip them.

However there are many factors that can dictate fish behaviour, so as i said this is purely my own point of view.

That said and done you could also consider that giant danios are pretty much mid to surface fish and CPD’s tend to stick to the bottom, depending on cover height of course (correct me if i am wrong). So with some decent planting etc they should stay out of each others way.

I’ve chosen not to mix my CPD’s, plus to be honest i think a species tank of CPD’s is a crackin sight to see. Even if you do have to look a little harder to appreciate them !

Thanks altaafe. I am gathering information and understanding on the techniques employed in, shall we say more complicated planted tanks as i am very much what i consider to be a newy to the subject.

As i have mentioned on a previous post, i have 5 CPD’s, 4males & a female in a 60L tank with the usual easy keep plants going on. Java moss, java ferns, moss balls, riccia etc.

My plan on setting up a 100L planted tank for my CPD’s has come about because a week ago the ‘lady of the pack’ came up trumps and fry have arrived ! So far i have only been able to spot 8 in any one time but i,m sure there must be more hidding in the plants. :D

So, i feel the need for a crackin planted/species tank like many of the fantastic pictures posted on this forum by its members.

    Thanks again. Matt.

Do you use CO2 in your tank ?
Have you had any success with breeding ?
