Thanks for the video. Can’t make out the detail, but they seem to be very happy and comfortable in your tank. Also, I took a look at the Erythromicron images and yes, I think they would be a nice complement to the Celestials. I haven’t seen any at the LFS here, or maybe I’ve never noticed it. Actually my latest craze is the Furcata rainbow (Pseudomugil furcatus). Check out Google images :

celestialdudeParticipantHi Ste2000,
What’s that crawling grass in the first photo? The one on the white sand? I’m looking for something like that to fill up the foreground of my 45-gallon tank.
Hey, haven’t seen you around on the forum in a while. How are things with you? We miss you!
celestialdudeParticipantOh yes, I agree with you, I’m a big fan of the Celestial Pearl Danio too because it reminds me of a bigger fish in miniature. In my opinion, I think it resembles the Rainbow Trout ( http://images.google.com/images?q=rainbow+trout ).
Especially this photo :
celestialdudeParticipantNice! Are those lotus plants?
Yeah, they are definitely very intelligent, it’s been really hard for me to get shots as well. As for having the camera, I think they can tell, and my theory is that if you have an active autofocus, it sends out a beam, either ultrasonic or infrared, and because they are so sensitive, they detect it. I think the only solution would be to use a passive fixed focus, and hope they wander into the correct focal range before you take the shot. That’s just my guess.
I was thinking of adding lotus plants to my tank too, but am concerned about them blocking out the light away from my other plants.
celestialdudeParticipantIt’s always nice to meet fans of the planted tank.
Nice rocks!
celestialdudeParticipantHi David, welcome and thanks for the enthusiastic intro. Hope you post some photos of your tanks soon! There are some fellow planted tank fans on this forum. Yes, CPDs do much better in planted tanks, so good decision.
Anyways, hope you get some answers to your questions posted, and good luck with the Celestials.
celestialdudeParticipantHi David and welcome to the forum!
Mine actually enjoy frozen bloodworms. They gobble them up, no questions asked. I’m not sure if maybe you got a bad batch? You can tell from the color — the redder the better, and nice big fat worms.
The other thing you could try is feeding them at regular times, twice a day. I hope you have a timer for your hood lamp, so that they have regular simulated dawn and dusk. This is really important in regulating their body clock and appetites. Feed them an hour after “dawn” and an hour before “dusk”. This is what I’ve found to work best for all my fishes actually. They know when the food is coming, and nothing can stop them from getting it!
Hope that helps…
celestialdudeParticipantThese are very healthy specimens for sure. They show good “posture” and do not have the typical “sunken” bellies. Also, fantastic coloration. Keep up the awesome breeding Glenn! You are a true guardian of the species.
celestialdudeParticipantWelcome dgphelps!
Yeah definitely sounds like the perfect community. If you intend on breeding the Celestials then I recommend lots of plants like Java moss to provide hiding places and also spawning areas.
Good luck and show us photos soon…
celestialdudeParticipantWasn’t me!! Good to know it’s working now though.
celestialdudeParticipantYeah I agree with maximumbob.
That’s how I euthanize insects (i.e. pests) — just remove the head — but I guess it’s easier for insects since they have distinct necks…
But yeah the best way to go is a quick and painless overdose of anaesthetic.
celestialdudeParticipantAh yes, if you intend to breed the CPDs then a community tank is not the best idea for fry survival.
celestialdudeParticipantWell….. given the size of the tank… I think 5 would be the absolute max. Maybe 3 would be more comfortable, but they are schoolers so that may be too few…. just my opinion. Anyone else?
celestialdudeParticipantSIMPLY BREATHTAKING…….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The CPDs would go nicely in that tank on the right. They are the perfect fish for this kind of “nano” setup.
celestialdudeParticipantExcellent combination! I think they will all go very well as you’ve got all the 3 levels (top, middle, bottom) covered. You’ve got the schoolers as well as the “loners”.
The only concern is the hillstream loaches — don’t they need a strong current to be happy?
And oh, welcome to the forum!!
