Hi mpodolan, Im also new to breeding cpds. Im glad to hear youve bred them succesfully. I couldnt really say wether your methods are a bad way to do it or the best way to do it. but Man! I know what you mean by the frys size. when I first saw my fry I thought it was a mosquito larvae stuck on the glass . Then I saw some photos here in the forum . Oh hey How did you move the eggs into the net? did you just use a baster?
bansartParticipantHi nice to meet you fellow breeder
bansartParticipantNo problem. I think I read it in one of the threads here that they sometimes do or was it that they eat the fry? well.. personally I havent seen the eggs on mines so i couldnt say. I think if your tank is heavily planted then it should be alright. Plus you have java moss for the fry to hide in and Im sure the adults wouldnt seek the eggs to eat. I have observed that the adults dont really chase the fry or even try to eat them. I think the reason why they sometimes do is because the smaller frys are mistaken for mosquito larvae or planaria worms which I see them eat in my tank. lol The male your gonna get is one lucky cpd.. I call my male cpd rockstar! I see him darting from one female to the next.
bansartParticipantHi dekstr
Im new also. I have the same amount of cpds you have. I have 5 females and 1 male. I also have 23 to 24c on my temp. I think 1 male should be sufficient. Mines started breeding after I lowered the water level to simulate summer drought for a day or two and then added water to simulate rainfall and they started breeding. I noticed only a few frys at first but now I have over 35!! . Some a lil larger and some are still small with sack and clinging to the glass. as far as breeding in group setting I think they would. I had dwarf gouramis in the tank but I took them out soon as I saw the frys. I feed my adults a combo of flakes, freeze dried bloodworms, etc. The frys that are a lil older, I give them a drop of liquifry and baby brine shrimp. goodluckbansartParticipantHi jippy,
welcome, Im new to the forum also. Your description does sound a bit like their spawning. I saw mines do the same thing. The male would follow the female and wiggle his tail and fins. I see him following the female all over the place and they usually dissapear into the foliage and then come back out again. Its just a matter of time until you get some CPD babies. Goodluck
bansartParticipantThanks. Man! I just counted 36 now.. Ill post up some pictures when they get a lil bigger cause my camera cant even focus on them.. Their so tiny.
