Sounds like you’ve got it licked. I’ve got Malawis in a 115g tank, mine are fed primarily on Tetrapro Veg, Hikari African and fresh foods such as cucumber, courgette & boiled peas.

I’m in Moray & will have some ready soon if ever your across this way. They are F1.

As said above though, if they are wild specimens you have then there is no need to worry about mixing of the gene pool.

Mixing of F1s is going to have to happen, to keep them available to the hobbyist, that is when it’ll be good to swap fry to keep the gene pool diluted.

I have successfully reared fry by leaving them in the parents tank (as I am doing now) the parents don’t seem to be interested in eating them and leave them to themselves. Don’t know if this is just my set-up but I have now done this in 2 separate tanks with no adverse effects. The only problem was the eating of eggs when in the smaller tank.

I fed my wild specimens primarily on daphnia & whiteworms although they also took a little Tetrapro veg. All the fry were raised in home made infusoria followed by Hikari first bites, tetra baby & then crushed Tetrapro colour. All the raised fry are now happy to live of flake.

Following the addition of the first set of adults to the wild specimens, the wild fish have started to ‘copy’ the younger fish and have taken flake, however, they are always first there when live food is given.
