Nice to meet you LeahK and yes they are lovable little fish aren’t they?
altaaffeParticipantMine are kept constantly at 24C and are constantly breeding, I had them at around 20C for a while and they didn’t like it.
Fry are raised in 26C and seem to grow quicker for some reason.
altaaffeParticipantNice one Jim, the first of many – I’m sure.
altaaffeParticipantwelcome to the site, looks like you’re going to be multiplying the numbers well too.
altaaffeParticipantNice to meet you Pavel, sounds like you’re doing well with them.
And don’t worry about your English, it’s perfect and certainly better than any other language I can speak
altaaffeParticipantIf you have plants in there with them they will feed on the tiny organisms and infusoria that present themselves from the plants.
First bites is a good one for them once they have become truly free swimming and then once they are big enough introduce the live food.
If you don’t have live food, I used to make my infusoria by adding a lettuce leaf to a jar of water and putting it on the window sill in the sun for a couple of days.
altaaffeParticipantI have constant spawning going on at 24C and they do like to have stem plants to be able to dash in amongst for cover and security.
altaaffeParticipantNice shots Darryl.
Are you sure they are about 3 months ? They still seem quite small.
altaaffeParticipantSorry but I can’t help at this time, I don’t post out and live in the N Scotland. I did drop some off with a young lad nr Huddersfield when I was on holiday in Yorkshire last year, don’t know if he’s managed to breed them yet but you could always try e-mailing or PM him.
His site name here was: Milnerhome
altaaffeParticipantNice one – good luck with the fry
altaaffeParticipantThanks

you using c02, ferts etc?
Pressurised CO2 fed in through the spray bars and ferts are from dry powders made into solution, dosed EI.
altaaffeParticipantThere’s around 30 in there and there is always about 6 or out and about over the low plants. They dash off when there is movement near the tank but if I sit down in front of the tank they’ll come back out again. I think hey get a sense of security knowing that the stems are right beside them.
altaaffeParticipantI am in UK but you’ll find that we won’t be able to ship into US due to customs regulations, hope somebody in the US can sort you out though.
altaaffeParticipantmine were always hiding amongst the plants after I upped the flow rates around the tank to help with Co2 distribution.
I have now added spraybars and inject my CO2 into a filter this has reduced the effect of the flow around the tank and they are now back out and all over the tank.
altaaffeParticipantAn unfortunate thing that some shops like to chuck some plants into some water and call them aquatic to make some money.
I hope it didn’t cost you too much, some nice looking fish in there though.
