Ok so my tank is all good before i leave on my over night fishing trip. every body looked healthy and active. i get home tonight and i find one my cpds barely living in a clump of java moss. i net the fish and held it next to the class to see whats up, and it’s eye is bulging and body looked a little crooked. my other fish are doing fine bouncing around do their normal thing.

Has anyone seen this before, maybe in another species? the cpd is still living and prolly gonna put in one of those breeding nets for the night. I hope this lil girl will make it by the time anyone has any input. but if not tell me what ya think so i can try and fix that.

    thanks..

    That sounds ugly. :?

Have you used organophosphates? Probably not, but I read it would cause that.

If the eyes bulging I suggest treating for popeye in a hospital tank ASAP.

Crooked body is really weird. I have no idea about that whatsoever. Can’t see another galaxy attacking another. They just don’t do that…

    Hoping for the best.

    Ryan,
sorry to hear about your ailing fish. I agree with Atlantis — hospital tank with treatment for the popeye, not sure what’s up with the bent back. I do notice that most of my 9 wild caught CPDs do have a somewhat “concave downward” appearance. If this were in a guppy, I would watch for spinal deformation or tail droop, but this slight bowing seems just to be part of their body plan — can even see it a bit in the four fish on the top of this page. Have you had the fish long? Transport from the wild oversees puts quite a strain on them. One of my three females has an overall darkish complexion, including the normally-white part of the eyes that looks abnormal, but she seems to be getting on just fine. This was the way I got her though, so I assumed it was transport-related.

Best wishes for healthy fishes. Keep us posted.

Good luck. I had a guppy with a similar problem with the crooked body, its basically a near death sign but it can be reversed. Get it into a hospital tank and treat with a pimafix/melafix combo along with a pop eye treatment.

well as far as the crooked back goes i may have an answer, Neon Tetra Disease, http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/disease/p/neondisease.htm, found here, i do keep my cpd with neons, so it is possible…

When my zebra got neon tetra disease it lost it became quite white, firstly began swimming in circles, then progressed to spinning while swimming.

As soon as I found out what it was I put the poor guy out of his misery. There is no cure, it is fatal, and contagious.

The crooked back is only in advanced stages, so unless there’s other systems I doubt it was the cause.

I’d really clean down your system though. The parasites are likely still in there, if your fish had it. This thing is a really, really bad thing to have in your tank.

There doesn’t have to be neons in the tank for a fish to get it. It was just first discovered on a neon tetra.
