Have a small amount of brown algae growing on an ornament which my otos love but there’s still some left over. Will CPD’s eat this? Or they only eat green algae?

I have seen them pick at both brown & green algae, but they are not known for their algae eating… I wouldn’t count on them to work like a clean-up crew.

Thanks, yeah it’s a little challenging feeding my CPD’s. They haven’t even tried to eat from the surface yet.

I tried to crush of freeze dried brine shrimp, and they picked at it but I guess I didn’t grind it fine enough because it was more like a nibble of sorts.

Tomorrow I’ll try soaking Hikari micro pellets to make them sink more quickly so the other fish don’t eat them.

Other than that I’m out of ideas. It’s impractical to regularly feed them live food, and my other fish will eat anything that doesn’t sink immediately.

Hikari first bites and micro (not mini) pellets are perfect.

My Hikari Micro Pellets sunk slowly and passed the CPD’s but they didn’t eat them :(

Any chance they can be conditioned to surface feed, or no, they’ll always be eating from the middle of the tank?

mine wouldn’t take the micros until they’d grown on a bit.

First bites are they way forward. The sink very slowly and swirl around in a cloud in the tank. grain size is tiny and mine loved it when they wouldn’t take anything else.

All my mature celestials in good condition come up and feed from the surface now.

I also found at the start that well crush JBL nano fish flakes went down well.

They will be picking up food from the substrate so no real panic.

They may never feed from the surface…

Try some algae wafers or some sinking shrimp pellets.

    Best of luck!
