Hey guys…
I want to go serious with the trying to get my galaxies to breed. I only have 2F and 1M and limited resources at the moment. I was looking at a breeding trap, but don’t think these fish would go for it. They look awesome, but something just ain’t right for them, so the sit and wait things not working.
What do you recomend for these little guys? They’re in a planted 10 gallon with sand right now, but I can move things around, and if neccessary, attempt to try to convince my parents to use that 5 gallon I kinda promised not to use ( Hey, that was made while trying to convince them to let me have a 22, which I got )
Should I seperate the two genders for a while? I know there’s not many of each, but I could put them with my neons, possibly?
I’ve got a brine shrimp hatchery, for my platy babies as well, so I’ll have those more at hand. My attempts at home-made ones have met with little success, and last time, dismal failure. Not sure the galaxies can even see the buggers, but oh well…
Any other good foods for them? That’s all the live ones I can get, but I can get frozen.
Help please? I’ve had enough waiting. It just ain’t working out. But what to do with these tiny fish…?

Feeding live food is the best option but if you cant get any then frozen is next best. Try frozen Daphnia or Cyclops if you do get that Brine Shrimp hatcher your Galaxies will love the newly hatched napulii Hope this helps and with luck you will get fry and remember patience is a VIRTUE.

Seperate the sexes and feed feed feed…baby brine shrimp is a fantastic conditioning food aswell as frozen bloodworm and a selection of dried foods.
Right you need to set up the tank in the following order, get your bare tank and clean it well with a salt solution, this sterilises the tank, rinse well and fill with fresh declorinated water, add an airpowered filter or an airstone(the filter is only really needed when the eggs hatch) set your heater to the regular temp the tanks are normally at. Add the mesh to the base(i use suckers to keep it pinned down)on top of the grid you need a spawning medium! for example a spawning mop or java moss, something that the fish can spawn on/in. The fish spawn into the mop/moss and the non sticky eggs fall under the grid out of reach from hungry parents.
You are nearly ready to add your breeders, leave the water to settle for at least 24 hours and then add the fish, i would try a pair at first and later on the trio and compare results.
Leave the fish in for a maximum of 3 days, and check under the mesh daily, if eggs are spotted remove the adult fish. If unfortunatly you dont get eggs remove the fish and condition them for a further week before trying again. Never feed the breeders when in the spawning tank, the water must never become polluted. If i think of anything more ill let you know.
SPAWNING TANKS UP AND RUNNING,THE ONE WITH CARDBOARD IS A EMPOROR TETRA BREEDING TANK AND NEEDS SHADE.
UNDER THE CARDBOARD…
ANOTHER VIEW.
Good luck Atlantis and im here if you need any help
October 26, 2007 at 12:46 am #12771atlantis_childParticipantThanks for the overview Ste.
I cleaned the 10 gallon out. Took out the plants, sand, everything. The galaxies are in a galllon ice-cream pail with lots of fake plants to hide in. Took a long look at the thing today and decided the organic sludge from the plants was probably making the water gross no matter what the test results say. The water looked clear, like always, it just covers the sand.
That stuff was nasty. I almost puked when I smelt it. Cleaned the sand as best as possible, then put it in another ice cream pail and left it outside with a lid on.
I plan on putting lots of fake plants in, and a divider in for the genders. Is it alright if they can see each other, or should I get something opaque?
Should I put in companions for the fish? I was thinking the white clouds, who have seemed to help ease the galaxies before. Especially for that one male… Or is that a bad idea? I was just thinking about the fact that these are shoaling fish.
As for the 5 gallon, I’ll have to ask permission and make promises. Not sure I can pull that off. How long does it usually take for fish to get in the right mood for spawning? With good food and all.
Gotta go back to work.
