Hello CPD lovers! :) Can I please ask a few questions>
    How many can I keep in a 4 gal cube, 10 X 10 X10?
Can I keep more than 1 male, all males?
    I was thinking 3 or 5?
    Are they known to jump?
    What ph do they need?
Are they like other danios, always on the move?
What do they eat, and how often should they be fed?
    Any help appreciated, thanks. 8)

    Welcome to the forum! :)

    How many can I keep in a 4 gal cube, 10 X 10 X10?

3 would probably be best, maybe four.

Can I keep more than 1 male, all males?

I find one male and two females a good combination. Plus if you ever feel bad about this species going extinct in the wild, and their natural habitat being ruined, you’ll potentially be able to breed them…Males are the prettiest, but don’t get along with each as well as males and females, or females together.

Anyway, males get all colorful for females, but one is the “alpha” so others will not be as colorful.

    I was thinking 3 or 5?

Again, 3, but that’s just me.

    Are they known to jump?

Yes! I’ve lost two this way, as have others. :(

    What ph do they need?

Between 6.2 and 7.8 is good.

Are they like other danios, always on the move?

    Quite sedetary actually, unless frightened.

What do they eat, and how often should they be fed?

Normal food is alright. They do better on quality foods, like Hikari mico-pellets, and small live foods. As for food, a little bit twice a day is best, or more in one feeding if convenience is an issue.

    Hope this helps. ;)

What fish have you had before or keep at this time, by the way? And these fish are all you plan to have in the tank?

i would say about about 5 -6 depending of filter and how densly planted it is

Can I keep more than 1 male, all males? I was thinking 3 or 5?

yes you can keep more than 1,
i couldnt see a problem with all males but i would personaly go for 2 males and 4 females or 3 and 3 at a push (again depends on how dense the planting is etc (in reply to atlantis’ comment about males being prettiest same as most things :P )

    Are they known to jump?

i have never seen mine jump and rearly see them by the surface (only at feeding when the brine shrimp are at the surface)

    What ph do they need?

sorry carnt help you there. but what atlantis said sounds about right

Are they like other danios, always on the move?

mine hide a fair bit (i see them but there normally in the plants)

What do they eat, and how often should they be fed?

i feed mine on brine shrimp (adult) i feed a bag (100 grams) that iu get from my pet store. they all seem to be eaten within a few hours

mine wont touch bloodworm unless they havent be feed for a while, theyll eat live daphina but i hardy feed them it

    Any help appreciated, thanks. 8)

I have kept all kinds of tropical fish since I was a child, goldfish, bettas, swordtails, neons, etc. Right now I have two saltwater reef tanks {fish, corals, inverts}, and a planted freshwater cube,{exactly like the one I want to use } with crystal red shrimp & a couple orange ones. Yes, they would be the only fish.

Are you planning to try to breed them? I know they’re very pretty, but they are being overcaptured in the wild, and domestic breeding is not yet stopping this.

    Already said that, but heh…

By the way, I’m very impressed that you have saltwater reef tanks. I think that makes you the first one to have saltwater here so far.

Should I get another fish? :( The place I was going to get them says they are tank raised. I don’t think they would be happy breeding in such a small tank.
Would you like to see my tanks?

i know of someone who has breed them in a 8x8x12 nano planted tank

also yes post pictures. you probably best making a new topic in the correct section to get more feedback

what do you mean by another fish? if you mean another species i would say yes but not to sure what i’d put in such a small tank with them.

if you go for another species then i would only put in 2 cpds + 2 of another small fish maybe another small rasbora?

but im sure the cpds (aswell as other rasboras) would prefer to be kept in a group of the same?

What I meant was, if they are endangered..then perhaps I should pick another type of fish. There are dozens of fish that stay small, some smaller than the CPD.

cool i see what your saying now. i didnt know there where many smaller than the cpd  (i know of 1or 2)

in that case personaly i would go for captive breed if you where to come across them.

however me personally would probably still go for them.
the way i look at it is i look after my fish well (like most people on here). if i wernt to buy them some little kid might point them out liking the colours and wanting to put them in a small tank with out the proper care they need (like all fish) so they would be best in my tank and cared for well.

    hope all makes sense

    waterfaller1,
Myanmar stopped the export of these fish late last spring, so unless there is bootlegging happening (?), then any fish you find should be either captive bred, or else already taken out of their original habitat and no longer appropriate to put back into it (with all the new diseases, etc., that they’ve been exposed to along the way). Since no more are allowed to be taken out of the country, then the argument that buying wild caught fish from fish stores will increase collecting pressure is no longer valid (although it was with certainty the reason their home populations are so stressed now, in addition to wetland drainage and development). About the same time as the prohibition to export from Myanmar, several new CPD localities in their home region were discovered. They are so relatively easy to breed (sincerest apologies to all the expectant fish-keepers in the group) that I would be surprised if the fish stores don’t start filling up again soon from the “farm breeders”. But just in case, amateurs like us are a great fall-back for the continuation of the species!

I’d give your beautiful shrimp tank a go for starters. The CPDs are small enough. Only dangers — eating of eggs/fry by shrimp or adults if not enough hiding shrubbery for them.

Thanks for taking the time to explain everything everyone, I really appreciate it! 8)

These are the two places I have found the CPD available~
    http://www.franksaquarium.com/

    http://www.azgardens.com/fish_snails.php

    Anyone have experience with one or the other? I am leaning towards Frank’s, as the other has some comments scattered around their website that I do not like.{it addresses people in a demeaning way}
