One of my cpd fry is swimming upwards in a bit of s spiral as if he cant swim streight. Is this a swim bladder issue? I also read that it could happen if he was to eat a brine shrimp shell. Which is possible since i was out of town for a few days last week and had someone else feeding the little guys.

Is there any hope for the fry?

They often grow out of swim bladder development problems.

I think you can forget about him, mines never recovered from that state. They eat and grow, but after a while the energy consumption needed for constant swimming is too high, and they start getting thinner and thinner, and eventually become too weak to swim. The best way is to euthanize them as soon as possible :/

He defiantly does work alot harder to swim around.. Ill give him another week and see if he improves or not

Well he seems to be more level, kinda a bull riding motion rather than upwards spirals, so it looks like hes improving!

Sadly the little guy is still having issues. It’s like he got squished in a door and he curves to the side :(. You might be right about him not getting better

Sounds like more than just a swim bladder issue….. More like a deformity, or a birth defect.

So there’s at least 3 that have a similar issue. None of the fry since the first batch have had an issue. I didn’t realize I had fry at first and did some minor tank rearrangement and planting way back when. I’m guessing maybe some of the eggs were buried or damaged at the time and these few poor guys are the result

Some fries do get these issues even when undisturbed. It’s either genetic defect or problem caused by some environmental factors (too low temperature…?), and I wouldn’t worry about it too much. In the wild there is never 100% fully healthy progeny, some are stronger some are weaker, that’s life ;)
