Okay, my 190 L corner tank is looking a little sparse and it’s in need of some new fish.
At the moment I have 2 albino Bristlenose plecs, 4 albino cory’s, 4 cardinal tetras, 1 zipper loach and 2 ottos.
It’s fairly heavily planted and there’s a large piece of bogwood and two slate caves.I’m definately thinking of adding more cardinal tetras when I find some that look healthy (so far my lfs’ haven’t had anything even close to looking healthy)
I’ll be adding the three baby cories when they are big enough aswell.
It’s well filtered with a fluval 305 external and I’m doing a 50% water change every week.
So come on guys, colourful suggestions please.

Fancy guppies are nice pretty fish. Killifish are cool too, a little pricey though. Also you could get rainbow fish or CPD’s. And check out paradise fish they get a nice size and are really pretty.
October 15, 2007 at 1:39 pm #12609katkinParticipantI’m avoiding guppies as I’ve had them before. I went to the lfs this morning and they had paradise fish, very pretty but some of the staff said they can be aggressive/territorial.
They suggested possibly a pair of rams but I really don’t know a great deal about them. They were very colourful and looked healthy, so they might be a possibilty.Slightly off topic, I picked up a dozen pygmy cories for the cpd tank, I couldn’t resist, they are gorgeous little critters!
kOctober 15, 2007 at 7:59 pm #12612CrazedpufferParticipantParadisefish can be a bit, but not really, mines generally passive he’s just mean to new fish. Rams are fun. but they can be a bit aggressive too.
October 15, 2007 at 11:54 pm #12613ste12000ParticipantI would recomend Rams..
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Microgeophagus-Ramirezi-German-Blue-Ram-UK-Bred_W0QQitemZ300161302078QQihZ020QQcategoryZ66795QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemWell i suppose that i would be biased seen as though they are mine
Also think about
Glowlight danio (fast, energetic and very colourful under the right light)
Endlers (small, peaceful and stunning colours)
Rosy barbs (Bright colours and slightly larger, peaceful)
Cherry barb (Males are a stunning deep red, peaceful, cheap and iv got a tank load im selling off)These are just a few for now, if i think of any that i think suitable ill get back on here…
October 16, 2007 at 12:48 am #12615CrazedpufferParticipantthere really pretty, can be pricey in some areas. They are fin nippers but are very pretty.
October 16, 2007 at 1:27 am #12616atlantis_childParticipantCrowntail betta!
I’m jelous you got pygmy cories. They had them at my work when I went for an interview, but sold out right away.
I’d have to set something up for them though, they’d get lost in all of my tanks. Hoping they’ll get some more.
They have extra large bronze catfish. I was contemplateing getting one to clean the adult side of my platy tank, but got a regular instead. Maybe I’ll return it, and get the big one, instead of getting the other regular one I’d have to get to help clean the place up.
I love young catfish. They go up, down and swim crazily all over the place. When they get older they stick to the bottom and don’t move that much, except to find food.

– Marble hatchets for the top — they “fly” in formation and never bother those dwelling in the lower regions.
– More cardinals when you can get them — the more the better!
– Dwarf (praecox) rainbows — larger rainbows can be somewhat, well, not truly aggressive, but at least a little obnoxious at they crash back and forth in the tank. The dwarfs are silver-sided, and the males have bright red/pink fins, while the females have bright yellow fins.
– if you have a fairly passive tank with enough vegetation for them to hide in when they feel threatened, I really like honey dwarf gouramis (Colisa chuna). Beautiful peaceful little splotches of yellow that poke around in the tank. Also, these little gouramis won’t out-compete your bottom dwellers for food like the larger ones can.
– a lone angel or black knife fish adds interest to the tank, but when they get larger, the cardinals will begin to disappear!
– Rummy-nose tetras: keeps the Amazon / South American theme going, make nice counterpoint to the cardinals.
– Ram (one of ste1200’s of course) — also maintains the south(/central) american theme.
– I’m also partial to loaches — sidthimunkis are my favorite, but some of the fast water hillstreams are very interesting too, as long as the water stays remarkably clear: Schistura cf. balteata and Sewellia lineolata are fun ones! (But just like kuhlis, the Schistura will try to spend some of their time up inside your waterfall filter!)Have fun, and post some px when you get a chance.
October 16, 2007 at 4:07 pm #12631katkinParticipantste – lovely rams! Very tempted and swaying in their direction.
L777 – I have to admit, I’ve never really thought much of the hatchets, but could be a good idea for the top of the tank, nice one
– Will definately up the number of cardinals, the 4 I have tend to dissapear until feeding time.
– I think I’ll avoid the angels but will keep an eye out for the dwarf rainbows and possibly the honey dwarf gouramisI’ll try and get some pics up tonight.
Thanks for the suggestions so far
KOctober 16, 2007 at 4:34 pm #12632atlantis_childParticipantRainbow or redfinned black sharks are pretty awesome. Balas arn’t colorful, but very shiny silver. They get big though. Angels, on the other hand, are little demons. There’s a few with all thheir fins torn off. That is so ugly and sad. Especially when there’s pieces floating around.

October 16, 2007 at 8:56 pm #12636aquaholic85Participanttry out zebra danios, the colored ones, yellow, blue, reddish, and i think goldish too we have over here,
Norman Lamp eyes are cool fish
throw some cherry shrimp in there
you could get away with some mollies
badis def cool
emerald tetras, bleeding hearts,go to your lfs and see what they have, if you have any motivation make a list of what ya like and let us kno what they have, thats prob. your best bet unless you buy online.
October 16, 2007 at 9:37 pm #12638CrazedpufferParticipantThe colored zebras are glofish. They don;t come in blue yet sadly
Also avoid goldfish, they are def. not good for that kind of tank.October 16, 2007 at 10:16 pm #12639atlantis_childParticipantsidetrack – I have a zebra danio that’s gold with shiny gold spots. Wondering if it’s a heritable trait, an if so, a zebra variant might be possible. I think people might find it pretty. Mine sure is.
Just would have to go to the petstore every week to look at the (35 cent) zebras till I find others, or at least a boy for my girl.
Anyway, didn’t want to jack this thread, but it seems too small a pondering for it’s own.
