I came across this a couple months ago and thought I would share it with everyone as my fish absolutely loved it even though they were not CPD.

If you can find them, get decapsulated non-hatching eggs. They are very inexpensive. If you can’t find them, then get the regular ones and decapsulate them. There are a lot of ways out there to do it. I used the simple bleech technique for the ones I did. There is hundreds of articles on the web to do this.

Once you have the eggs or have decapsulated them yourself popping them is easy.

Take a coffee cup and fill it about 1/2 full of tap water. I would say 1 tsp is more than enough for a lot of feeding. Place the eggs in the coffee cup. Microwave for about 3 minutes or what it would normally take to make a cup of coffee and they are done.

The volume increased by about 300% for me and the fish absolutely loved them. They are very lightweight and float in the water column for a long time but will sit close to the bottom for your bottom feeders.

I think this technique would work really well for feeding CPD especially fry. I think that popping them will also help in speedy digestion and also make it easier for them to recognize it as food being it has such a high surface area and breaks up really easily compared to a somewhat compact hard egg. They look really cool under a microscope, popping them really changes their appearance.

Of course you can just feed the rehydrated eggs to them also.

Once I have my decapsulated eggs and my CPD, I will post my results.
