Plastic or silk plants

I’ve got a ten gallon setup with sand and live plants. I can’t say that I’m liking it too much. I don’t like doing water changes, worry too much about sucking up the sand! The live plants are OK, but they all have crud on them from the java fern that melted. I’m doing more research, but think my 75 may end up with small tan gravel and plastic or silk plants.
Do any of you use non-live plants? Can you post pics of your tanks to give me ideas?
