This is the first time I’ve actively tried to breed these (had some young show up in the tank when I kept some in the past). After conditioning I put a pair together last night. Was gone all day and tonight I see a couple dozen eggs at the bottom. I used a needlepoint grid to catch them. I see some have fungussed over already but many still look good. Are they done breeding for now? Surely she is empty??! ;) I’m assuming they are done and I should remove them and tend to the eggs. Should I add some methylene blue or are the fertile ones pretty robust? According to my quick search blue isn’t normal procedire with these? Is it going to hurt anything to add some blue just for kicks? It wasn’t a pristine tank so there’s some detrius on the bottom with them. How long until they’re ready to go again, a couple weeks? The only danios I’ve bred are giant danios so not sure how much they relate. Oddly enough the eggs look about the same.

Scratch that. I can count about 45 eggs.

Hi polyacanthus, welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new found eggs.

I don’t generally add any chemicals to protect the eggs from fungus. Sometimes I add a few Oak leaves, but generally I just let nature take it’s course.

45 eggs sounds like the right amount. That female will be done for a week or ten days before spawning again. I would definitely remove the adults as they will eat any eggs and/or fry that they find.

Keep us posted on your progress and good luck with them!

Well the eggs all fungussed even with some methylene blue. The temp was way too high, that probably had something to do with it. They were in a tank that previously had rainbow fry and after I moved them out and the danios in I didn’t think to turn down the temp so it was about 80F. I’ll crank down the temp and try again in another week.
