Hi everyone. I am new here but a member of another aquarium site called aquatic community. I joined here to get some help on these specific critters as I am putting together a 45gallon tall tank and would like to have some. I was planning the following for a stocking list:
    20 CPD,
    3 hill stream loaches,
    2 bolivian rams
    6 dwarf cories
    and 6 marbled hatchet fish.
I know that these fish are from all over the world but their needs seem to overlap okay. Any thoughts? The tank will be heavily planted with a nice big piece of drift wood.

Excellent combination! I think they will all go very well as you’ve got all the 3 levels (top, middle, bottom) covered. You’ve got the schoolers as well as the “loners”.

The only concern is the hillstream loaches — don’t they need a strong current to be happy?

And oh, welcome to the forum!!

    Welcome to the forum!!
Sounds like a great tank to watch! Some of those fish have big enough mouths to make raising CPD fry a concern. Ditto to the strong current concern for the hillstream loaches. What type of hs loaches are you thinking about (there are so many!)? My favorite is Sewellia lineolata. These spend less time in the power filter bucket than some of the long linear ones.

Ah yes, if you intend to breed the CPDs then a community tank is not the best idea for fry survival.

I am relatively new to the aquarium hobby and I’m not sure that I am up to attempting to breed yet. If and when I get to that point, I will move a selected breeding group to a tank specifically for that purpose.

I’m leaning towards the dwarf panda cories. I have regular peppered cories in my other tank and they are doing well.

I used to have a panda. They’re not terribly small, but nice fish. I have had a female Peppered for a while and have never seen such a round and active cat in my life.

I have my pygmy catfish (3 corydoras hastatus, 3 corydoras pygmaeus) in with my galaxies since my 10 gallon Galaxy tank broke. ( )

They go together great. About the same size and hang out together. And as I’ve been saying over and over agian, they’re damn cute!

The pygmaeus corys look a bit like little peppered. The hastatus look kinda like a otto, having the same stripe across their sides, but cory whiskers instead of a sucker mouth.
