My celestial pearls are hiders. I have them in a community tank and they have always hidden, even when I only had guppies in the tank. They also always stick together. Shortly after I got my celestial pearls I removed a junk of java moss that was in the tank to another tank that only had crayfish in it. I then moved most of that java moss back but left a small amount. Some how a celestial pearl danio egg stayed in that second tank. This fry never hid and was also out in the open darting around. I moved him to the community tank when he was about adult size. He is just now starting to get pigment though, but, he just hangs out in the top of the tank with the guppies and rerios.

Are my original CPD just cowards and this fry is acting normal? Or will he become more like the other CPD’s as he gets older?

Your originals are probably wild caught fish and will always be rather shy. Here’s a link to a pod cast where Charles Clapsaddle from Goliad Farms talks about how keeping fish in aquariums changes their behavior.
