Hello everyone, I’m new to this forum. and hoping to get some great advice from those of you who are successfully breeding.
I’m afraid these pics aren’t brilliant, and their colours are still a little pale as the pics were taken the same day I placed them in the tank.

    Very cute!
They will colour and plump up quickly.

    Nice pics, nice tank too

What is that low, mossy plant thing in the centre of the last picture called?

Looks most like a flattened-out “marimo ball” or “Japanese moss ball” to me. (Cladophora aegagrophila, technically an algae, not a moss”)

I know it takes all the fun out of having them, but I’ve found that my CPD’s -prefer- to hide, and if you give them more plant cover, they seem to be happier, and I suspect may breed more. Tall plants in the front of the tank give them more room to swim in without feeling “threatened” (although they also make it harder to see what they’re up to).

Yes that is a flattened moss ball! It’s no longer in that tank I’ve used it to cover part of a log in a larger tank! The tank actually looks a lot diffenerent now. Alot more tall plants throughout and java moss at one end wedged between some of the taller plants. I’ll try and get a more recent pic up when I get the chance.
My next dilemma is moving! Sometime in August I’ve got to shift my 4 tanks from North Yorkshire to Arborfield (Berkshire) Can’t say I’m looking forward to it. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
And if there’s anyone living around Reading area who would be willing to give me there water stats, that would be great. I’m hoping it’s not as hard as it is here, ph of 8+

Katkin – try the Practical Fishkeeping site. I think somewhere they have a list of pH readings submitted by their readers around the UK.
