Hi everyone, I’m a new member to the forum. I’ve had a small group of 5 CPDs for about 7-8 months now. I do plan to add more to the tank, but I’m also going to try breeding them for fun. Below my 10 gal CPD tank I’ve set up a 5 gal tank with a sponge filter and some moss. I’m going to fill it with some water from the 10 gal and cycle it for awhile. My question is, how do you typically move your adults from their home tank to the breeder? I’m going to try to have the temp and parameters as close to identical as possible, but I’d hate to risk stressing my adults. This breed is my absolute favorite fish and I really treasure them. Thanks!

Hi Tim, welcome to the forum!

I use small plastic containers like sour cream, or chip dip comes in. I run the containers through the dishwasher before using in the fish room. I fill the container about half full of water from the tank the fish are in, then I net the fish and put them into the container. I then float the container in the tank the fish are going into and add small amounts of tank water every few minutes until the container is full. At that point I simply release the fish into the tank by turning the container on it’s side under water.

Best of luck with your breeding project!

Okay, sounds similar to what I do when I’m acclimating new fish; the plastic container floated in the tank is a great tip though. Thanks Dennis, much appreciated!
