Has anyone tried putting a mesh of sorts near the bottom of the tank to keep the parents from eating the eggs? or does the female just drop them, and the male has to fertilize when they fall making the mesh pretty much worthless?

I’ve not tried it. Might put them off. But worth a try

I’ve set them up in breeder baskets like this before….

I just put a small amount of moss or nylon yard in the basket and the eggs will fall through to where the adults can’t get them.

is that just a mesh basket attached to the walls of your tank? or is the mesh at the top of your tank holding it up?

i love your set up…are those 10 or 20 gallons, and how many do you have lined up?

The mesh tabs at the top hold it up.

Those are 10’s. I built my racks to hold 4 rows of 6 tanks.

I don’t use baskets to set-up my CPD’s any more. Monica, (11th post down), details her set-up in this thread. http://www.celestialpearldanio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=855
I use 5 gallon tanks and set them up like she talks about now.

Thanks Tom. After 40+ years of keeping fish I thought it was about time to do a proper set-up.

Thanks m. I’m using those screw-in compact fluorescent bulbs in diy fixtures. I’ve got it down to less than $3 per tank.

The racks are just 2×4 lumber with carriage bolts for fasteners. They are 70″ long so I can put 6 ten’s, (short side out), or 2 twenty longs on a shelf. Also, if they were longer I would have needed to use 2×6 lumber.
