Hello there. This is my first post and I thought I might introduce myself. I have been into the aquarium thing for most of my 36 years on the planet. I have only recently been introduced to this species. I really love them and would love to get my hands on some captive bred fish. If anyone has any or knows of anybody that has any and would like to ship them to me, it would be much appreciated. I currently breed N-class Endlers, Dwarf Crayfish, Cherry Shrimp and a couple of different lyre-tail guppy strains. I have lots of other non-breeding tank inhabitants including Royal Clown Plecos, Clown Plecos, Clown Loaches, eel loaches, black khuli Loaches, Peruvian Darter Tetras, hillstream loaches… I have 11 tanks currently and growing. All of them are fully planted and running ecosystems(some with c02). I thought it time to try to breed some of these endangered little danios. Thanks a lot for the consideration!

Have you actually got any yet? Are they hard to find in your area? There are small pockets of breeders all over the world now so you should be able to get them eventually. I was lucky that the first people to breed them are Pete Liptrot and Paul Dixon, they are 30 minutes drive away from me, i contacted them and they supplied me with six females. I bred them for the first time last week, i have not seen fry yet though!!!!

I am still without Celestials. if anyone has any north of the border please contact me posthaste. Also, if anyone would like to ship them from elsewhere, I am in. Captive bred would be the only ones I want. I am an environmentalist. I collect ashtrays and have a Huge knowledge base on information regarding the history of ashtrays, thus me calling myself Dr. Ashtray. I could see sensitive people shying away from a name like that. So, there you go! I also do stand-up comedy that is more fitting of that name. Cheers kids!!

You just made my day, saying you only want captive breds. 8) Not everyone is so concerned. Myself, I never would have bought them knowing their status, but too late now. Now I just wait and wait for my fish to decide to stop fooling around and have kids. I think raising a whole bunch and finding good homes for them would help ease my guilt.

Now, at the risk of being called a blode by he-knows-who, ( ste12000. cough, cough )I have to ask. You collect ashtrays as in the ones people dump their cigereetes in, right? Not some crazy type or fish or other thing.

I was asking if it was not the obvious thing. Didn’t I say that? Huh?

And yes, ste 12000, next time I go across the ocean to that little island you live on I will track you down and…take whatever action I consider necessary. ( glowers darkly )

I think we had better create a new captive bred breed called something Latin ashtrayicus something Latin. This is the chance of a lifetime…or not! Haha!

    Cheers!

Well if you find a new species of fish there’s a chance part of the latin might be named after you. It does happen.

ex. Dr Herbert R, Axelrod has paracheirodon axelrodi ( the Cardinal Tetra )

I attended University of Guelph from 1990 to 1994. There was a building named after Dr. Axelrod. He donated his fossil fish collection to the University back around that time. I had the chance to see it, very nice indeed! If you ever see any fish named after me, let me know. I would love a photo! Haha!!

Well, I found some local CPDs in Ottawa, Canada. It turns out they are quite popular yet still quite rare in this area as well. I found some information on the local aquarium society board. I have a dozen of them reserved from a local breeder that has them very close to being available. Here is the link to that thread. Quite an interesting read. Maybe someone can add something from this board to that discussion.

    Group,
I added myself to the Ottowa Valley Aquarium Society website, and posted a link to this forum on that thread. There were quite a few people interested in CPDs on that thread, so we may get some more company!

    Cheers,
