Uh…Well this job I got requires an 2 hours before and after I take the bus. I like it, but…ok.
Anyway, the first petstore person phoned me. (biking/walking distance away) It’s been a long, long time since I dropped the resume off, but oh well. This was the one I really, really wanted. Family owned, amazing, wonderful place…
I phoned back and she wanted to know if I wanted an interview. Said yes. She asked when? I said, today?
So an hour later I had an interview. I’ll get phoned today or tomorrow. (Now this person I can actually trust to phone back. )
If I get it, that will be awesome. Will feel bad about ditching the other store, which was really nice too, but damn, this is my life, and I gotta do what’s best for me! Yes, that’s selfish, but life’s like that.
Anyway, another chapter in the saga of Atlantis’s search for the perfect job.
Oh, but this place has even awesomer fish! Way more, and they tend to sectionalize people a bit more. (Newly renovated fishy room!!! He he he. )
More waiting…

October 5, 2007 at 12:07 am #12473atlantis_childParticipantI got the job!
I told my current manager today that I might be leaving, cuz so she has a back-up plan for when I was booked next week. She’s a good person, she didn’t want to let me go if I had to, but understood. It’s a good place. She hires people that truly love animals, not just anyone, even though businesses are desperate for employees around here…
The other girls (no guys whatsoever) there are great too, lots of laughs, and very easygoing.
I’ll miss them already, but the new place will be great too. Their staff tend to stick around a long time and are really friendly and love animals.
so you want to go with the first shop? which is the shop youve just had an interview with?
Yeah…it’s always been on top of my list of prefered jobs.

I have worked at a sw only fish shop for the last several years. Only part time now though because I work for my hubby out of our home in the office{would rather be at the fish store }

Well I get a walkthrough with the fish dude, learning about everything (they have reading material too, apperently ) Then scrubbing algae, feeding, catching fish and getting water plants, helping people with filters, sunstrate, heaters and all that. Probably restocking, maybe cashier. I don’t mind that. I love asking people about their pets, and they;re always happy to tell.
My biggest struggle will be not taking home fishys…I fell in love at first sight with a newly arrived betta today, but knew better than to buy it. Would have to work at finding a place for him…Got a rainbowfish to keep with my other in the community tank though. They’re doing ok. Think my old one was male, and the new is female. Oh well, maybe I’ll try breeding after I get tired with raising dwawf platies. Like trying to get them galaxies to breed isn’t hard enough.
But if I can convince my parents. I am so going back for that beauty. He had slight fungus, so he’s in the backroom and won’t be sold soon.

October 10, 2007 at 5:40 am #12558atlantis_childParticipantFirst day on the job. It’s totally awesome! Scrubbed off algae alot, found ICHy fish needing treatment, helping people get fish (some nice, some totally clueless or downright idiototic), answering questions.
Beautiful, beautiful fishys! Really nicely designed tanks and good system for heating and water control. They have an impressive digitalized system for all that stuff. High tech.
But uh…I need to go back to the other store to pick up that betta, my true love.

October 10, 2007 at 3:32 pm #12559ste12000ParticipantIm really glad you enjoyed your first day, you are doing most peoples ideal job so please dont rub it in too much
What kind of species do they sell? are they all general community fish or are there any odditys/rare fish in amongst them?? Have you told them about the Celestials?
Good luckOctober 10, 2007 at 6:48 pm #12561CrazedpufferParticipantAny SW fish?
October 11, 2007 at 12:12 am #12565atlantis_childParticipantThey sell a great variety of fish. The got all the common community ones, and a bunch of rarer ones. Arownas, small Koi, Angelfish, African butterflys, Silver dollars. Some kinda eel thing. Lots of cichids and loaches. A supriseing amount of ‘agressive’ type fish actually. Hardly any buyers, but they’re gorgeous. Unless all their fins have been torn off of course…
FW lobsters and crayfish too.
I got a good look at all the fishys, seeing as now I’ve scrubbed all but a few tanks there.
No saltwater fish, but “brackish” teacup rays.
Have you told them about the Celestials?
Well, they don’t sell any, and I’ve none to sell them, so no…

October 11, 2007 at 2:53 am #12570L168ParticipantNow i keep the socalled teacup stingray “Potamotrygon Reticulata” and its definately not a brack waterfish. Id like to hear why they are holding them in such a Aquarium.
Mfg Peter
October 12, 2007 at 4:24 am #12578atlantis_childParticipantReson why I put “brackish” in quotes is because it is not a true brackish tank, they just add more aquarium salt. At least that’s what one other employee told me. Or that the rays needed some other kind of treatment different from other fish. Some kind kind of chemical property thing? Different people say different things.
But I took a sniff at the water in that tank, and smelt no precievable difference between that water, and other aquarium water. *shrug*
There’s another kind in there too. They’re technically for sale, but it’s mostly for display, because it’s bloody huge, even for those kinda fish.
And I’m guessing they don’t sell too quick.

October 12, 2007 at 4:36 am #12579atlantis_childParticipantIm glad your finally working with fish cos you can get us all a big discount and post to the Uk
Somehow I missed this. Anyway, I don’t get a discount yet, but when I do I’ll be happy to give send fish your way as long as you pay for the fish, post, and all in between.
We don’t have any fish incredably rare, we do have some particularily Ichy feeder fish if you’re in the market. Can’t guarantee any suvivors by the time you get them though…
– Atlantis
October 12, 2007 at 8:19 pm #12583ste12000ParticipantOh well never mind  I think ill leave the Icky feeder fish and concentrate on the top quality fish the Uk has to offer  …
Hope your enjoying yourself in everyones dream job!!!!!!1 -
