    I’m so happy right now. :D

    I applyed last week at a local petstore for a full-time position, and they shared my resume with a totally fish store (why, not sure, but good thing in this case!)!

    Guy phoned me just a minute ago, told me about hours I’d be doing: 9-5 (perfect!) and I get an interview tomorrow! So excited, but it’s a mostly saltwater fish-store, so I think I’m going to go do some research right now…

    Any hints on job interviewing? Never had a ‘real’ job before. Help, please!? ;)

    Hi,

    A few tips.

    1. Shave and dress smartly
    2. Dont try to bluff, if you cant answer a question then be honest and say you dont know, but you will try and find out.
    3. Always say sir even if they have told you thier name.
    4. Dont Panik keep calm

    I think first and foremost, passion comes first. If you’re passionate about whatever the job’s gonna be (FISH FISH FISH) then let it show, and that’s all that matters.

    Look alive and you’ll get the job.

    well done as said drees smartly/speak well as you will be dealing with customers andthey will prefer nicer dressed/spoken peopleworking for them.

    as you said have a good read about marines so you know afew of the basic things

    Just tell them that as a member of the worlds greatest fish forum and speaking with the worlds leading fishkeepers everyday you would be perfect for the job….. 8) :lol: :D

    Hahaha… yes… there is definitely some truth to that… focus on your research and information exchange skills with regard to the fishkeeping hobby.

    Glancing through marine fish books…Wow do they have boring names! Angelfish, Butterflyfish, Porcupine fish, Parrotfish, Hawkfish…

    Geez, way to name fish after other animals! :roll:

    Oh, I said on my resume I was a “fresh water” fish person, but also that I’m willing to learn. Which is true. If it’s about fish, it’s not exactly boring homework :)

    Frogfish/Anglerfish, Boxfish, Clownfish, Pineapplefish. Yeah the names are pretty boring aren’t they? lol.
    SW are a lot of fun. Some of the fish (mainly puffers some angels too) are incredibly personable.

    CONGRATULATIONS!?!

    After my recent downer on not being able to find a job/childcare, I’ve just landed on my feet too. Unfortunately not in a fish shop :cry: But it’s local (farm shop) with flexible hours and my neighbour has agreed to have my youngest for me. Oh, and my mother has offered to pay for me to go on a training course to be a mobile spray tanner and all the start up equipment!
    So hopefully by Christmas I’ll be rolling in it (NOT!)

    Glad to hear you’re branching out and giving salt water fish a go. My husband would love a marine tank, but we’ve agreed to wait until he’s out of the army and we have our own house. By then you’ll be an expert and I can hammer you for info!

    Well, the interview last night went good I think. I stayed calm and answered questions fairly well, maintained good eye contact, spoke at right level etc.

    We both knew I was barely knowledgable about saltwater stuff, but I’m hopefull. He was a really nice guy, and it seemed there was stuff I could do without being totally imersed into saltwater culture. They have over 8000 gallons of water with fish there, so lots of algae scrubbing and water testing. I can do that ;) . Also, I mentioned in my interview that I was a quick learner and would research up what I didn’t know…As said on resume too.

    Good thing I did a bit of research cuz he asked me how marine aquariums differed from freashwater. I listed a few, then sort of tapered off. Thinking later, I knew a bunch of other things, but forgot under the pressure.

    He said he’ll call in a few days, so I just have to hang tight.

    On another note, the have the most gorgeous, huge aqauriums there. I had to stop myself from drooling over them… :P

    And the fishies were so damn colorful and beatiful too!

    Ah…It’s been a week and no calls! :?

    What is “a few days” when it comes to picking employees anyway? How till I call (or shouldn’t I? It’s probably be I didn’t get it…)?
