WOuld a temperature spike season the females more into spawing?

I just started my breeding project, have 2 males and 3 girls in 5gallon tanks with moss and Riccia either floating in masses, or grown on coconute shells on the bottom.

Feeding them a color flake food, spirulina flake, blood worms, cyclops and brine shrimp…

Not seeing much breeding interest or courtship yet, the temperature is currently at room temp or, 20 Celsius.

    Mine spawned at 23 C .
Try water changes 25%-30% every 2 to 3 days. Make sure the new water is a few degrees cooler than the regular temp of the aquarium.

Mine seem to do best between 20-24 Celsius. I normally keep them in unheated tanks so it just depends on the local weather conditions as to what the tank temps are. On the lower end it takes the eggs longer to hatch, 5 to 7 days.

Like most Danios, they prefer to spawn at first light… typically too early for me!

Mine seem to like the dip in temp after a water change

Yah i think i’m going to have to toss a little 25w heater in the 5 gal, boost the temp up to 23C then do a water change… My females are finally fattening up and the males are chasing so I’m seeing progress! Fingers crossed! Here in Canada CPD are impossible to find now so I’m hoping to get a breeding program happening.

I know the feeling about availability, I live in one of Vancouver’s ‘burbs. They are available, but are hard to get. I have started a breeding program myself. While this is actually my second spawn, I consider it my first, as it was the first one I specifically set up as such.

I remember when i bred Africans, so many people here in the Toronto area were involved.

CPD’s I find a lot of people here talk about them and ask for them at the fish stores but no one is breeding.

Would you ever ship fry to Toronto?

If there was a demand for them, I would consider it. There are people on a local forum here that import and ship, even an LFS that has built its business around shipping.

My wife and I are in the process of planning a larger scale breeding operation. Here in the Vancouver area we have near perfect water. Imported fish have problems with osmoregulation in our waters. Locally bred fish don’t have this problem.
