found another fry last night so that is only 2 so far! better than nothing.

    however,
i was not ready for fry yet, its been so long without any, which i put down to not having the required cover, only a load of weed (Limnophila aquatica) and a large wood assembly to hide out (they love it!); therefore i dont have any fry foods!

i am goin to be starting RO water this weekend just to improve the enviroenment further.
i will laso be planting a lot more of the Limnophila aquatica weed for more cover.
    getting some fry food aswel

hopefully more babies when these changes are put into place, just worried it may upset their current breeding situation.

just need to know weather the fry would be ok without any foods until Saturday night till i get some fry food?

because of this situation of no fry food, i am against taking them out of the breeding tank with the adults and putting them in the isolating/breeding net as i feel they have a better thance of eating some foods they find in the tank….. is this the right thig to do?

    please comment

ps. sorry about the waffle, a lot to ask and say when so excited and confused at the same time! lol

HI, I’d say leave them in the tank with the others, they will have more chance of finding food. If you can get hold of a microworm culture, my fry seem (before I lost them) to love them. bbs are easy to hatch and feed as the fry get bigger as well. Definately get some ‘liquifry’ for any future fry you have.

got the liquifry, and found 6 fry in total now while doing my revamp. the fry i found this afternoon only look to be about a day old, mayb not even that so was very carfull when moving them nto the isolation net.

i think i may have found an egg which was caught in the current. i put it in witht he fry in the net just to be sure. does anyone know exactly how eggs look.
this one seems to be about a mm in diameter, but its completely clear. my guess/instinct tell me its an Infertile Egg….. please comment.

Infertile eggs are completly white. So you may have a good one. Use liquid fry food for a couple of days and try to crush some flake into a powder. I bought a cheap mortice and pestle for this and it works a treat. If you are looking for top quality fry foods go to ebay and type in ZM fry food. The 100 size is excellent for first feeds after liqui fry and before Baby brine shrimp. Good luck

i would like to know what a dead fry would look like. i have a fry at the bottom of the isolation net that looks to have gone a yellowy colour, which to me doesnt look good at all!! :(

i was also wandering, i have used the Liquifry (3-4 drops a day) but i am concerned that they are not eating still as it sits on the water’s skin and doesnt sink… is this normal?? is it natural 4 me to worry soooo much! lol

i have started making smaller, more often watewr changes to the tank.

what is a good age for the fry that they have passed the crucial stages of their growth… you know what i mean :? lol

Worrying is a good thing, in moderation. I know how you feel though. I found my first fry yesterday. They’d been sucked into the trickle filter despite my efforts to block up the slots in the strainer inlet. Fortunately with adding more media to the filter it’s slowed the water flow through to the outlet holes and created a little pool on top of the wool pad so they could breathe and swim about. Cue completely ignoring my girlfriend all evening and dis-assembling my filter to look for fry. I’m amazed they survived the impeller to be honest. A few had died. I now have 3 swimming around in a fine mesh filter bag (similar to a breeder net, but without the frame) attached to the side of the tank, all shoaling already. I’ve solved the inlet problem as I found some circular course sponge in a shop. That’s now tied on with string stopping fry getting through. Actually, do you reckon i’m likely to get more fry from letting them be sucked up into the filter, or waiting until they appear in the tank, providing they don’t get eaten? I guess it’s cruel though given there’s a chance they could get sliced in half by the impeller. All seemed intact though. Spookily I bought some Liquifry #1 yesterday afternoon before finding them in anticipation of them breeding. How often should you feed this for? It states a few days on the instructions. I have the opposite problem with the Liquifry sinking to the bottom of the mesh bag and dissolving through the mesh into the main area of the tank as the water flow is downwards. Anyway, good luck with them! :D

    liqui fry
on the bottle it says to feed 1 drop per 4 litres 2-4 times aday

i feed mine by having the drop about 1cm from the water surface (if you look in the tank you will see small white partical’s sink down)

i also put the 8-20 drops into a syringe and add about 10 ml of water and 5ml of air. i then shake for a few seconds and it will be cloudy i then squirt it into the tank for the fry to eat (this is good for fry a few weeks old as its small

this seems to work very well and havent had one loss yet!

I feed liquifry the same as chris, with a syringe..i use slightly less though and feed 2 drops in a 15 litre breeding tank twice a day. After the first couple of days try a few Baby brine shrimp, if they take it use this for two feeds and use powdered ZM 100 for the third.
I breed tons of different fish and all fry are different. It may take 2-3 spawns before you really learn what the ideal feeding and water change routine is for that species.. For example i have recently bred Golden pencilfish and Ram cichlids within two days of each other. The pencils did not eat bbs for over 1 week while the rams took it after the first day freeswimming.after a month the rams are twice the size and i have increased the size of food and quantity of food to match the type and size of fish.
Just use common sense and you will be fine.
