Great! Indeed my heart beats faster every time I find something new about these little guys. I plan to keep 50-60 of them in my 200 liters setup, along with 3-5 otocinclus affinis. If things go well and they breed like this, until May I’ll have quite a colony.
February 10, 2012 at 10:21 pm #15159PushkatuParticipantHello once again.
Things are going well with my CPD fry. There’s at least 7 of them right now, maybe more, they are swimming much faster, so it’s quite hard to count them. I also started to feed them Hikari Tropical First Bites now and I can only assume they like it, as it’s quite hard to see if they actually eat it. Is it ok if I feed them 3 times a day, hikari, spiruline and again hikari, or is it to much?
I bought a hang on filter(600l/h) and the flow it makes is a little strong even on low, do you think my CPDs will suffer because of this? My main filter(1000l/h) works on full speed also and I plan to leave it like that, at least until my tank is cycled and it only affects the back of the tank. If I turn the hang on filter on, there’s going to be some flow in front of the tank to, is it to much?
Cheers!

I like to feed my fry several times a day trying to keep their bellies full. Just watch your water quality very closely.

February 12, 2012 at 1:36 pm #15161PushkatuParticipantThing is, the food sinks fast and they only seem to eat it when it’s near them. Once the food is out of their area, they don’t touch it anymore. I have some snails in there also, small ones, so nothing is wasted, thankfully.
February 24, 2012 at 4:18 pm #15176PushkatuParticipantMy fry are growing, not fast like guppy or any other kind of fry I had before, but they look a lot more like fish now. Most have at least 1 cm, 1 or 2 are smaller, but they’ll catch up. In my other breeding tank(15 liters), I removed the adults today after 5-6 days. To be honest I’m not very happy with that setup, but I’m hoping! I would not mind adding 10 or more CPDs to the colony.
March 1, 2012 at 9:29 pm #15179PushkatuParticipantHere’s my 200 liters tank, almost one month after reset, but I got most plants a couple of days ago, so the tank does not have that good old aging look, that makes fish tanks look even better. More changes will probably be made(by me of course) in the next months. I plan to change the substrate this Summer, with a black one. Nothing is done yet.

Feeding time
My 1st breeding tank 12 liters, it’s looks like a little jungle. (7 CPD fry in it)
My 2nd breeding tank 15 liters. I set it up yesterday, but the filter was already cycled. I’m going to leave it like that for another week just to be sure.
Cheers and beers,
MariusMarch 27, 2012 at 5:33 pm #15196PushkatuParticipantHello again guys. My baby CPD are now one month and 3 weeks old. They are about 1.5 cm in size. I wonder if I could move them in my main tank with the adults now or maybe I should wait until they are 2 cm in size? What do you guys think? I want to add another breeding pair in there when I remove the young CPDs.
March 28, 2012 at 12:37 am #15197BallAquaticsParticipant1.5 cm is over half the adult size, they should be fine in the tank with the adults.
Dennis
April 1, 2012 at 11:21 am #15198PushkatuParticipantToday I moved them with the adults. They seem to like their new habitat and the adults don’t pick on them. A new pair will be moved in the breading tank(now empty) soon.
April 8, 2012 at 7:43 am #15199PushkatuParticipantHip hip hooray, today is a beautiful day for me. I found 8 CPD fry in my 200 liters tank. I will not be needing the little breeding tanks from now on, because I now know how to get more fry and now that I know how, I’m ashamed that it took me so much time to find out. All I have to do is to look carefully each morning at the surface of the tank, right after I turn on the lights. This way I can see and catch the fry before the adults can eat them all. I am so happy. I will only use the small tanks to keep the fry from now on, no need to stress the adults by moving them from one tank to another.
April 8, 2012 at 11:06 am #15200BallAquaticsParticipantHi Marius, it’s great to hear you have found a system that works well for you. My friend Peter Cottle always says the best way to spawn danios is the way that works best for you!
Here’s wishing you continued success with all your breeding projects.

April 8, 2012 at 12:08 pm #15201PushkatuParticipantThank you and thank your friend for the good wishes. I am proud to say I have found 6 more and I managed to catch 5 of them and move’em with the other 5 in the breeding tank. Every single one of them is worth saving, they are lovely fish.
EDIT: I managed to catch the 6th fry after a couple of hours, to my delight of course.
June 20, 2012 at 12:21 pm #15274PushkatuParticipantHello once again. My CPDs are doing well and their numbers have grown since my last post here. I moved my fry into a 15 liters tank and they seem to like it better there. I now have around 10 fry in the little tank and I find more each day in the big tank where the adults are. To bad I can’t catch all of them and many end up as food for the adults, but with each fry that I catch I feel more attached to these little fish. I spend many minutes observing them and it’s quite a show. I intend to raise their numbers to 50-60 and after that give what ever fry I can catch to friends so that others can enjoy them as well.
Cheers and beers,
MariusJanuary 9, 2013 at 10:10 pm #15301PushkatuParticipantHello once again folks. It’s been a while since I last posted anything here. My CPDs are doing great and I now have around 50( I started with 10, last year in January ).Since we last talked, I once again changed their setup so it now looks like this:

There are 4 people now in my town that have CPDs, besides the guy who sells them, most of them got them thanks to my fish journal that I keep on a local fish related forum.
God bless you all, c’ya next time, with hopefully ever better news.
January 10, 2013 at 6:01 pm #15302BallAquaticsParticipantThat’s a very lovely tank Marius, thank you for sharing your video with us. Congratulations on your success!
