Hey guys!
My name is Marius and I’m from Romania. I’m happy I found this place. I’ve been looking at your pictures and I really like what I see. You guys sure love these little fish. Anyway, I own 5 tanks right now, 4 small ones(12, 15, 15, 25 liters) and a bigger one(200 liters). I love this hobby and I spend every penny I can improving what I have. I have 10 m. galaxy(I like this name better than any other) and I love them. As a matter of fact, I plan to breed them and keep as many as space allows me in my tanks. Right now I’m having some problems with my big tank(green water), but next month I plan to start a new setup. Here’s what I have now and a few pictures with my old tanks/setups.
Fish:
-15 Paracheirodon simulans
-15 Paracheirodon innesi
-6 Hyphessobrycon herbertaxelrodi
-3 kuhli loach
-2 amano shrimps
-40+ red cherry shrimps
-1 apple snail
-5 assassin snails + babies
-10 CPD
-9 adult guppy endler + fryOld pictures:

I’ll post some pictures with my new setup once it’s ready.
Cheers and beers!

I might be a little biased, but I think we’ve got the best photos and info about these fish that you’ll find anywhere.

If you don’t mind me asking, what fish is that from your avatar? It looks a lot like galaxy, but it has different colors…

Danio erythromicron – http://www.danios.info/fish/erythromicron.aspx

It’s a lovely fish. Now you gave me something else to do. I have to find at least one pair.
January 23, 2012 at 5:04 pm #15118PushkatuParticipantHello once again!
If I keep my CPDs in the same tank with Danio erythromicron, is it possible they cross-breed?

I have heard that there is very good chance that they will interbreed. Not something I would recommend however.

January 27, 2012 at 1:29 pm #15122PushkatuParticipantOh well, I’ll just stick with my CPDs for now. As I said in my first post, I plan to change my 200 l tank into a CPDs setup and mayby add just another cyprinidae specie like boraras merah. I have also put 3 CPDs, one male and two females in a small tank(12 l), filled with stingy moss, monosolenium(sp?) and christmas moss. They behave naturally and the male is chasing the two females all over the tank. I also have some riccia, one of the female seems to prefer it, the other one just sticks with the other moss types. Anyway, it’s been a day since they’re in the tank and I plan to leave them here 4-5 more days, but I’m quite worried, because these little fish are quite fast and when I’ll try to catch them, I might “damage the eggs”. From your experience is there an easy way to catch them, or I’ll have to do it the hard way?
Thanks in advance!

I remove my sponge filter and lift the moss so they can’t hide under it, and then just net the adults. If you move the net slowly and deliberately they are not too hard to catch. If you start chasing them with the net though, it can be entirely different!
The eggs are not adhesive, so the ones that are not caught up in the moss will simply fall to the bottom of the tank.

January 29, 2012 at 8:11 am #15124PushkatuParticipantOk, many thanks for your help. I will let you know if I make any kind of progress with their breeding. I will remove the adult fish from the tank tomorrow. I can’t wait
January 30, 2012 at 11:01 am #15125PushkatuParticipantAnother quick question:
I am planning to buy some Otocinclus spp. and keep them in my 200 l tank with my CPDs. Can they be a threat and eat the CPD eggs? As far as I know they are algae eaters. :
January 30, 2012 at 6:32 pm #15126BallAquaticsParticipantNot really sure about that one, I don’t keep any other fish in my breeder set-ups.
I do know otocinclus cats are about the only fish I’ve found that won’t eat baby freshwater dwarf shrimp.

January 31, 2012 at 1:45 pm #15128PushkatuParticipantThank you once again.
Today I removed the 3 adult CPDs from the breeding tank(they where in there for 5-6 days). Fingers crossed now! I’m going to wait another 3-4 days, or should I wait longer? Usually how much does it take them to reveal themselves? I know it’s kinda of a noob question, but oh my this waiting is killing me. I was never so excited about breeding other fish I had. I know I should think positive, but right now, all I’m thinking about is that there must be something I did wrong and I’m never going to see their little eyes in there. Please say something to calm me down, if that’s even possible.
I sold all my other fish and I really loved those fish, just so that I can keep more CPDs.
PS: if you think I’m crazy, I won’t blame you, my family already told me I am.
January 31, 2012 at 7:32 pm #15129BallAquaticsParticipantWell it depends on several factors. When the fish actually spawned, and the water temperature being the 2 most important.
I set my breeders up for 7 days in unheated tanks. I have seen fry as soon as the day after I remove the adults, but that’s not very common. It’s usually more like 7 to 10 days before seeing any fry. I’ve seen it take up to 2 weeks!
I’ve been spawning fish in one form or another this for almost 45 years… I don’t think you’re craze at all!
Dennis
January 31, 2012 at 7:59 pm #15130PushkatuParticipantI don’t have a heater there, so the temperature is around 20-22.There’s more than enough moss in there and I’ve seen them actually doing it. The male almost embraced the female while performing his dance, all this while they where in the moss, not out in the open. I tried to stay away from the tank as much as possible. Do you think I should add small drops of green water in there every day, or every two days? Just in case there’s fry in there I can’t see. I have bought spiruline(the adults also like it a lot). I fed them frozen blood worms while they where in there, dried tubifex and some sort of flakes mixture.
Anyway, I will wait one more week and maybe I’m lucky enough to see at least a couple fry.
