Hello everyone
This is my first time trying to breed fish, and I decided to go with CPD because this is my favorite fish and as I understood they not so hard to breed. I purchased 7 of them a while back 3 died in a horrible powerhead accident But 4 survived and are very happy.
So far in my 10g fully planted tank I have 2 females and 2 males CPD plus some other inhabitants. I would love to breed a pair of my CPD, one of my females have a deformed tail it’s always stays closed I got her that way so I am not sure if I her deformity will pass to the babies. I am setting up a breeding tank which will be eventually transformed into a CPD tank, it’s a 14g but I am not gonna filled it up all the way, because I don’t want my CPD to jump out when breeding. I will have live plants in there not a lot at first only some mosses attached to rocks and driftwood, some floaters, and maybe some water spryte. I will cover 80% of the bottom with regular gravel the rest will be covered with marbles. The reason why I put marbles in there is because I know CPD scatter their eggs and I thought if I won’t notice them spawn the eggs will be safe. Also I am planing to remove the parents once the eggs are laid.
Does this sounds like a good set up for for CPD to breed?
How do I know when they ready to breed? I know you feed them some live food, but for how long? Is feeding them frozen blood worms and brine shrimp should target breeding?
Do I put them into breeding and feed them some live foods there or I do it in the regular tank and then move them?I did do quite a lot of reading on this subject but still would love to hear from people who have experience with breeding CPDs. Any suggestions, advice and constructive criticism is always welcome
Thanks everyone

I’d love to advise but still waiting for mine to breed. Gorgeous fish though. Fingers crossed we both do it!
My tank is approx 40 litres, heavily planted with mainly java moss. Tiny powerfilter and a sponge filter. I just feed crushed flake.

They are gorgeous. I fell in love with these little guys as soon as I seen them in my LFS. I hope they will breed for me so that I can have a nice shoal of them
Good luck to you and if you have a successful breeding I would love to hear all about it
