    Finally,

Recently, I have been wondering whether I have been providing the correct habitat to my phishes or not. Because it seemed to me that they were very very shy, to the point where some would not leave their val shelter. For most of the time, the females would wander in the middle cleared section of the tank, the males dispersed near the vals and on the bottom.

Just today, I’ve found both males and females interacting together! The males coming out into the middle cleared section, the females going into the vals! I’ve never seen the females go into the val section facing me, with another male. Male on male flaring was seen, haven’t seen that since two weeks ago. Males chasing females around the place, sometimes into the vals/java fern.

I think this result may have been attributed by
1: feeding of bloodworms the night before,
2: turning off the lights so my phish can have a good ‘sleep’ before a fresh day,
3: gotten used to the sounds of the co2 injection hitting the filter’s impellor, or
4: felt the cold front coming in, resulting in a drop in barometric pressure…

Let’s hope it’s the bloodworms!

I have a question though, I’ve read somewhere on here before that hydras are a bad sign? How could the presense of hydras indicate the success of the fry?

I heard it was if there were hydras in the tank, there wouldnt be any fry…?

    thanks,

Yeah, hydras can sting and kill small fry.
