    Hello all,

I just pulled three pairs from a spawning tank (2.5 gallon with mesh on bottom and some java moss) after a week of time in the tank.

How long does it take for eggs to hatch to know if I managed to get any fry from try #1.

    Thanks

My eggs took 3-4 days. However, the fish will snack on them if they are left in the tank with them.

Generally when I put them in the breeding tank I do a mid morning check for eggs. As soon as I spot some I take out the fish.

How big and what do you look for, for the eggs? I pulled the fish 4 days ago and still no fry, not sure if I even have eggs. The adults were over a plastic mesh to let eggs fall through and not get eaten.

I’ve dealt with egg scatterers before, and you should be able to see the eggs. If you’ve pulled the breeders already, and the tank is pretty much bare, just carefully shake the mopps or the java moss and wait a moment and then gently lift the mess. The eggs should be lying on the bare glass on the bottom of the tank.

eggs are 1-2mm diameter. Clear to amber colour. Easily seen with the naked eye, but a light is useful. Bare bottom tanks make it infinitely easier. I tried to find some in a planted tank (i saw them being laid) and after an hour I couldnt find them anymore. Thats natures way of protecting them i suppose.
